Dear Colleagues,

As part of the Ocean Best Practice System (OBPS) initiative, we would like to collect information on existing capacity development activities related to ocean best practices (OBP) that you are aware of, or are involved in. This information will allow us to identify gaps and set priorities for the OBPS Working Group related to capacity development.

Activities we would like to know about include capacity development across the ocean value chain from observations to providing a product to end-users focused on OBP, and these could include:
  • University studies
  • Short courses (summer school, other)
  • Distance learning (MOOCs, Webinars, online courses, video tutorials, etc)
  • Internships opportunities
  • Ship-board experience
  • Visiting fellowships
  • Workshops

We are seeking information about the type of capacity development mode (see above), where is this activity taking place, who is providing it, what OBP it relates to, which EOV, what part of the value-chain does this encompass, main language of this particular training, URL if available.

To facilitate this, we have prepared a questionnaire which you can find on https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Q7RC2KR.

Your input will be very valuable to start mapping out current efforts in OBP capacity development. If you know of any colleague that can also provide some information, please feel free to forward this message. We would like to have this information by the 23rd of May 2020, so that we have time to analyse these data.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Claudia Delgado and Ana Lara-Lopez
On behalf of the Ocean Best Practices System Steering Group
