APRIL NEWSLETTER

CONNECTING ARTS & SUSTAINABILITY IN SCOTLAND

Welcome to our April newsletter. We hope everyone is doing ok despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown.

We are still here to support your green endeavours in any way we can. Have a read of this article - How Creative Carbon Scotland can support our cultural sector
 - to learn about some of the available support and upcoming events. And please, get in touch with us via email or social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn) if you've got questions, suggestions, concerns or a specific green challenge you'd like some help with.

There's a load of good reading and viewing in this month's newsletter, including a new strategy blog from Ben, two online Green Teases and five inspiring short films.

Enjoy and stay safe!

Our news

Cultural Adaptations Conference postponed

Like so many other events, festivals, conferences and workshops, the ongoing impact of the coronavirus has prompted us to postpone our Cultural Adaptations Conference, which was planned for October.

The new dates - please save them! - are 2nd to 4th March 2021. The venue, TheStudio...Glasgow, remains the same and we very much look forward to welcoming you there for what still promises to be an inspiring and worthwhile three days.

In the meantime, we invite you to watch this video to get an insight into our recent work in Gothenburg (Sweden) and how our arts and culture can adapt to the impacts of climate change and support societal adaptation.

For more information about this project, please visit the Cultural Adaptations website and our pages about the March conference.
Don't forget to register your interest in attending the conference!

New 'Spokes People' films

Woman in a head scarf with text promoting 'Spokes People' - a series of five short films
Last year, playwright Lewis Hetherington and filmmaker Geraldine Heaney worked with Bike for Good in Glasgow's south to create Let’s Go! A film about cycling and climate change.

It gives us great pleasure to announce that the artists have now produced a series of short films telling the stories of five individuals’ cycling journeys, from what inspired them to get started to the different benefits they derive from choosing to go by bike.

Decoupling Advisory Group Embedded Artist Project

Zero Waste Scotland and Creative Carbon Scotland are working on an exciting project that embeds a filmmaker into a new advisory group. The project has been initiated to address Scotland’s transition towards a lower consumption, circular economy in the context of the climate emergency.

Ben's Strategy Blog

Being in lockdown has given Ben some time to ponder the future, specifically the future of the arts and culture in a post-COVID-19 world.

In this thought-provoking blog, he poses some challenging questions and shares his thoughts on possible outcomes and lessons. How do we prepare for a 'new normal'?
Do we need to 'do things differently' or 'do different things'?

Green Tease: Upcoming online events

Since we first advertised next week's Green Tease webinar, COP26 has been postponed; we are still going ahead with the webinar, albeit with a slightly revised angle.

Now, we'll be discussing this question: How can the arts and artists work with environmental and civil society campaigners to address the multiple dimensions of the climate crisis, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the COP26 postponement?

This event is a collaboration between Creative Carbon Scotland, COP26 Civil Society Coalition Culture Working Group, Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, and ecoartscotland

We hope you'll join us, particularly as it's also a good way to stay in touch with others while isolating!

Wednesday 29th April, 6pm-8pm, online
