Dear CYC Members,

Another week, another email and I am amazed we have reached the completion of the first week of 'Lock Down - The Sequel'.

CYC member Peter Barker has written a super poem which we have published below, along with some lovely photos taken by Jane Chitty whilst on walks with her dog walks around the Harbour. And Rosemary Laird has penned another fabulous poem, which is an amusing reflection on the art of shopping in these strange times!

Plus some hints and tips on how to Zoom. Good video conferencing etiquette and a video on how to set up Zoom for those still not quite up to speed with the new way of staying in touch.

More information below about how to join the next Day Skipper or YachtMaster course with First Class Sailing. And don't forget the first creative writing session by CYC member Tracey Westacott is on Saturday, why not give it a try

Do keep in touch, there are a number of ways you can do this:

I wandered lonely as a cloud
Around the fields to avoid the crowds.
The birds were singing clear and loud
The NHS do make us proud.

The skies are blue and the wind is East
No vapour trails to steer the geese
But we have time to stand and watch
As we can’t sail in our yachts

Clear skies are seen with no planes
Being stuck at home is now a pain
Exercise is key but on your own
The message is to stay at home.

Businesses are closed and staff furloughed
Our boats are repaired with new anodes
We have nowhere to go, marinas are shut
The locks now working but we are stuck

The clubs all quiet and we’re locked out
WhatsApp’s busy with everyone messing about
But we can all meet thanks to zoom
With a couple of drinks in our sitting room

The tv’s on I’ve seen it before
The weathers fine but we’re stuck inshore
There’s nowhere to go and life’s a bore
How I long to leave this shore.

COVID-19 AND THE OVER 70'S
SHOPPERS' GUIDE FOR THE PANDEMIC PARANOID
21th April 2020

Log on at midnight, but you see you're already in a queue
That's what is necessary here, so that's what you must do.

Watch the screen till one o'clock, of beauty sleep bereft
You're though, hooray! But now you see no shopping slots are left.

With online food impossible to the shops you must set out
But Covid-19 awaits, of that there is no doubt.

Precautions then you must employ, wide aisles a good idea
A Superstore would help the 6 foot rule, save your paranoia

The old people's hour is early, set the alarm, it must be done
Sacrifice more sleep, miss breakfast, get up before the sun.

Now before you leave there's lots to do, the shopping list but one
Spray First Defence right up your nose, although it's not much fun.

Your mask must be N95 or FFP, make doubly sure of that
Alcohol wipes, 70% a must, no time to feed the cat

Glasses are a good idea, sunglasses, ski goggles will do,
Just protected your eyes with something, it's really up to you.

Once there a trolley you must seek, approach hand wipes in hand
Wipe the trolley handle well, it should be carefully planned.

Join the queue already formed marked out in airport style
And make yourself comfortable, for you may be there a while

The queue is clearly marked, you'll see, with sleeping trolleys used
Wheels in the air and string between, to keep you well amused

Now clean your hands once more, you must remove the threat
Put mask upon your face, but not too soon, it won't work if it gets wet

Once in the store you must avoid all shoppers that you meet
Avoid them well for you must not get closer than six feet.

Two week's shopping you must buy, be careful what you choose
What you forget you'll do without, so don't forget the booze.

Trolley parked and boot so full, return to learned refrain
Wipe hands again, remove your mask and then wipe hands again,

Once home it's still not over, use First Defence once more
Then gargle with salt water, you must be really be sure

Isolate shopping bags in shed, soapy wash or wipe food bought.
The coronavirus must be removed, Covid-19  must not be caught.

Your hands washed and wiped so many times, are dry and oh so sore
They need hand cream, so rub it in, that ends the shopping chore

Exhausted now, but hungry still, you really must be fed
Then you are free, shopping complete, you can go back to your bed.

ZOOM HINTS AND TIPS

Click on this link for a short video on how to set up zoom
As we have all started to use Zoom for our get togethers and pontoon parties; a few hints and tips on good video conferencing etiquette!

MUTE YOUR MIKE
When you're not talking, mute your mic. As a courtesy to others, keep your mic muted unless you are talking essential with groups of more than three people.

RAISE YOUR CAMERA
There is one, and only one, acceptable camera angle: head-on and at eye level. Your table is almost certainly going to be lower than your face, and that means people are going to get an unflattering look up at you. Use a set of books, a stool, or a higher table to make sure your camera is at the same level as your eyes. My mum and dad have found using the ironing board a good way of adjusting the height of their ipad! Unconventional but it works!

GET COMFORTABLE
Much like being in a physical meeting, once you join a call, you shouldn’t be getting up and moving around. Start with a comfortable place to sit or stand for a long period of time.

LIGHT YOUR FACE
It’s best to start with lighting because that will dictate where you are sitting. Open up your curtains and let the natural light pour in, but don’t let all that light hit your back. I recommend having your largest light source either right in front of you or no more than 45 degrees away from directly in front of you.

GALLERY VIEW
This lets you see everyone in the meeting at once, instead of just the person speaking. To turn that on, click the tab that says "Gallery view" in the top right corner. If the meeting has 49 or fewer attendees, you'll see all of their screens displayed on one page. If there are more, you'll have the option to move between multiple pages. Change it back by clicking "Speaker view" in that same top right corner.

How about adding a VIRTUAL BACKGROUND With Zoom, you can take a video call from a messy room and hide it by adding a virtual background. Zoom gives you a few backgrounds to use. You can also upload your own images. This feature appears in the Settings under its a tab called Virtual background.
