Still Building Beautiful homes during the COVID-19 Pandemic

AKA: The Art of Staying Flexible During Difficult Times!

Every day at Horizon Homes, we are being asked if our builds are affected by COVID-19.

So far, we have been fortunate that construction is an “essential industry” in Australia. So, the short answer is: We are very much open for business!

We have been able to manage our supply chains well, and there are no delays with materials at this time.

The exciting news is that many homes in the Homequest Luxury Home Design Village are now reopening, and Horizon Homes will reopen its display home from Saturday, 2 May. We will ask you to abide by social distancing protocols, and defer your visit if you are unwell. There is no need to make an appointment. We will be open from 11am to 4pm daily.

Being a small, boutique builder has allowed Horizon Homes to be agile and adapt quickly to the changes in workplace safety to allow us to keep building during COVID-19.

A positive aspect of this challenging time is that our clients now have the luxury of more time. They are able to consider their design choices in greater detail. Read more on our blog or check our video below.

When Home and Officer Merge: Trends for 2020

With so many people working from home, a well-considered space for a home office has never been so important. Every Horizon Homes build is completely tailored, but we are seeing the following trends when designing for clients:

Study spaces are moving out of kids' bedrooms. Instead, people are opting for study spaces in a common area that can incorporate more than one child at a time. A long, built-in desk with good storage space is a common request. Often the study is built into an upstairs rumpus room, giving some privacy from downstairs living while still allowing parents to monitor study and screen time.

A quiet retreat. But sometimes you do need to carve out a quiet space, and at the opposite end of the spectrum, we have clients asking for a small home office space, with well-considered custom joinery, to create a quiet space to conduct business in a busy family home. Designing a room with good light, good storage and privacy is key to a compact office space.

Multi-function spaces. We've all been home for a few weeks now, so no need to tell you that space is at a premium. Our clients are asking for multi-function room within a home to maximises the space and create a flexible, well used area. Think combinations like guest room / home office or media room with built in study space.

Planning for tech. Clients don't want to be desk bound, so a well thought-out electrical and technology plan is a must to allow connectivity in every room.

With any design, it is important to future proof it. Your family's needs will change over time, just as the way you work and study will also change. Designing spaces that will grow and change with you is important. This is why office and study space is becoming an intricate part of any design we do.

Here are two recent built in study spaces - one in an upstairs rumpus area and the other just off the main downstairs living area.
