MONDAY APRIL 20, 2020
There are currently 106 confirmed and 28 probable cases of COVID-19 in the Health District. Cases will be updated daily at 1:30pm on DelawareHealth.org/covid-19There are currently 12,919 confirmed cases in Ohio, along with 2,653 hospitalizations and 491 confirmed deaths.

**NEW REPORTING UPDATE**  The Ohio Department of Health is requiring both lab-confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 be reported within 24 hours to the local health department in the jurisdiction in which the case resides. This means we will now report out both the number of positive lab-confirmed cases and the number of probable cases of COVID-19

A probable case must meet a specific CDC definition and is determined by a healthcare provider and/or the Delaware General Health District. A healthcare provider and/or the Delaware General Health District must determine if the symptoms along with other diagnostic tools indicate the ill person falls within the CDC definition for a probable case.

**Portions of Delaware County are annexed to Columbus Public Health and Franklin County Public Health based on tax jurisdiction, including Dublin, Washington Township, Columbus and Westerville. If a resident would test positive for COVID-19 in one of those jurisdictions, then the public health department in Columbus or Franklin County would handle that case, even if they reside in Delaware County.
PROTECT PUBLIC HEALTH

BREAKING NEWS  Gov. DeWine announced today Ohio students will not return to school buildings for the remainder of the academic year due to COVID-19. Students will continue to learn remotely.

"Why are we keeping schools closed? We've flattened the curve, but the virus remains. Also, to go back to school now with a relatively small amount of time left - many educators have expressed to me that this wouldn't be a good idea even if the health situation was resolved."

BE LIKE ST. LOUIS  Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton referenced this chart again during today's press conference as a way of showing how important social distancing is during a pandemic. This chart is related to the 1918 flu outbreak. Ohio is trying to flatten the curve like St. Louis did -- they began social distancing only a few days after their first case.

STAY ONE PACER AWAY  We'll put it into words we all understand in Delaware County -- STAY ONE PACER AWAY to protect yourself! Thanks again for doing your part to slow the spread!

BE PREPARED
RESTARTING OHIO  Last week, Gov. DeWine announced that Ohio is starting to prepare plans to start the reopening process on May 1. The Governor said, "Throughout this (process), we have been exceedingly mindful of human life and protecting the people of the state of Ohio."
COMMUNITY ACTION

Gov. DeWine recently challenged Ohioans to beat Michigan at completing the 2020 Census. Ohio is currently behind by 2.6%! (Michigan's latest response rate is 56.5% and Ohio's is 53.9%.) Let's go, Buckeyes! Beat Xichigan!

Lastly, here is a quick update on our response rates as of April 18:

-  National Self-Response: 50.5% (over half the nation has responded - nearly 74 million households!)
-  Ohio Self-Response: 53.9% (tied for 12th nationally)
Delaware County Self-Response: 64.6% (2nd in Ohio)
-  Franklin County Self-Response: 51.5% (52nd in Ohio)

Remember, you can respond to the 2020 Census while being safe and practicing social distancing at home. Thank you for the work you're continuing to do on the 2020 Census as many of you and your colleagues also work to combat COVID-19.

DISINFECT SURFACES  Is someone in your home sick with COVID-19? Do not clean the area around them unless it is soiled. In the rest of the home, clean surfaces and objects using soap and water, then disinfect surfaces and things you touch often (phones, tables, countertops, light switches, doorknobs, handles) with:
• Household disinfectant spray or wipe
• Diluted household bleach solution – make sure it is not expired
• Your own bleach solution – mixture of 1/3rd cup bleach per gallon of water or 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water
• Alcohol solution with at least 70% alcohol
