CalPoets' 2020 Poetry Symposium Goes Virtual!
April 23rd, 2020

Dear Friends,

As National Poetry Month draws to a close, many of us continue to shelter-in-place, acting in solidarity with our communities in order to keep each other healthy.  COVID-19 has allowed organizations such as ours to see just how nimble and flexible we can become in the face of vast uncertainty.

To this end, California Poets in the Schools has made the unprecedented decision to GO VIRTUAL with our 2020 Poetry Symposium.  While we mourn the fact that we will not meet in person this summer to build our community and our connection in the ways we are accustomed to, we simultaneously celebrate the opportunity to explore new collaborative approaches, grow our network and break down barriers - as we offer this virtual, cutting-edge opportunity FREE OF COST to all.  Donations are, of course, encouraged, and will support California Poets in the Schools through the precarious financial times ahead.  We are deeply grateful to Creative Sonoma and the County of Sonoma whose financial support will make this free, virtual conference possible.

The dates for the conference will remain the same - June 26th, 27th and 28th (Friday afternoon 2pmish to Sunday afternoon 2pmish). Jane Hirshfield and Jason Bayani will join us as workshop leaders, and featured readers.  In addition, we will offer a full menu of workshops and open mic events, led by expert Poet-Teachers throughout the state.  Please stay tuned for more information on the workshop schedule and format.  Registration to the symposium is required, however registrants can pick and choose which workshops to participate in. Please click here to register.

Stay safe.  Stay home.  Stay connected.

Warmly,

Meg Hamill
