Hi all,

Well 2020 has gone kind of pear-shaped so far, hasn't it?! So much uncertainty, and no knowing when we'll be able to meet up for the next face-to-face tournament.

But it's not all bad news... there are other ways to play Scrabble if you have an Internet connection, and other ways to keep in face-to-face contact if you have an Internet connection and a phone / laptop / tablet (any device with a camera).

Stay safe everyone, and keep in touch,

Jennie.

PS - CORONAVIRUS is a valid Scrabble word, and is and anagram of CARNIVOROUS!

Internet Scrabble Club

ISC has been around for many years and is probably the easiest way to play Scrabble online. It doesn't suit a phone, but is perfect for a PC, laptop or tablet. There's the browser version on www.isc.ro or you can download and install the WordBiz app at www.isc.ro/en/download.html.

There's a post on the Scrabble Ireland Facebook group where people are sharing their ISC Username - come and add yours so that we can find and play each other (or if you're not on Facebook let me know if you want me to add your username to the list)

Scrabble Go!

There's a new app, Scrabble Go!, that's replacing the old EA Scrabble app, mainly for use on the phone. You don't need a Facebook account to connect to it, although you can connect to it using your Facebook account if you wish. Search for Scrabble Go! in the App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android), or click the link below to visit their Facebook page to find out more.

Face-to-Face Video Calls

It's great to keep in contact, specially during these times when people can feel very isolated. A phone call is good, but it's even better when you can see the person / people you're talking to. There are lots of apps out there now that can be used to make video calls, with one person or a whole group of people.

WhatsApp is great for face-to-face contact using a smartphone. You can also send text messages, images and videos through WhatsApp.

Zoom has become a very popular way of making face-to-face calls, and can be used on a phone or laptop / tablet (any device with a camera). A phone is fine for a call with just one person, but a bigger device is better for a group call.

Skype has been around for a long time, and is another very popular way of making face-to-face calls. It can be used on a phone or laptop / tablet (again, any device with a camera). It can be used to have a conversation with just one person or a group call with a few people - but again, a bigger screen is better for a group call.

If you need help...

I'm happy to give anyone a hand getting set up on ISC, WhatsApp, Zoom, Skype, or anything else. Email me on events@irishscrabble.org or ring me on +353 (0)87 6868410.

I'd also be happy to set up a Scrabble group call on Zoom, where any number of us can connect and have a chat while we wait for these strange times to pass. Just let me know if you're interested and we'll go from there!
