2019-20: Issue 36

BEST Announcements

In the interest of everyone's health and safety, all BEST/PTO events have been cancelled for the remainder of the school year

BEST PTO will be showing our appreciation in the following ways:
  • "Thank You Messages" for Davis and Lane Teachers (via Google Drive)
  • Teacher Appreciation Week Gift Cards for all Teachers and Staff
  • Supply Reimbursements for all Teachers
Teacher Appreciation Week
Staff at both schools will receive e-gift cards in lieu of regular Teacher Appreciation Week activities. In addition to the gifts, we will be sharing two Google documents (one for each school). In these documents, students and parents can express their thanks to any teacher, specialist, staff member of administrator.

This is a chance to get creative! Add a photo, a picture of artwork, a video, or a special message for any and all people at your school. You can create your own slide or add onto a slide started by someone else. When the document is complete, we will share all of the thoughts of appreciation with the teachers and staff at both schools. Please keep in mind that whatever you share will be visible by the whole community. If you would prefer to email a private message directly to a teacher or staff member, that is also an option. Please try not to change the work submitted by other people while you are working in the document. If you see any inappropriate content, please email us at best.pto.bedford@gmail.com so we can remove it.

Teacher Reimbursements
This year we will send all Davis and Lane teachers e-gift cards. This program provides teachers and learning specialists gift cards so they can purchase teaching tools and supplies that are not included in the school budget. Many o four teachers spend their own money to purchase items to improve their classrooms and support curriculum work.

Appreciation Fund
The gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week and Teacher Reimbursements are funded through the generous support to our Appreciation Fund, from parents like you. Thank you for your support!!

Many of you have already donated to the Appreciation Fund throughout the year, and we thank you! We also understand that many families are not able to donate at this time, so we are not requesting donations in a Spring Appeal this year. Those who still wish to donate may do so, but clicking on the logo below.

2020-21 Kindergarten Registration
as of 4/6/20

Kindergarten Registration is moving to an online system. All paperwork will be filled out and submitted through this online system. This system is currently being created and will become available in mid-May. Clear directions will be provided so that you can submit all the necessary paperwork through this system. If you already sent in the packet your information is safe, however you will need to fill out the paperwork again online. For the health of our staff we need to move in this direction. We will share more information soon on the kindergarten screening process and the kindergarten information sessions.

Community Information

The Bedford Food Bank at John Glenn Middle School
Fridays, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

To assist and support Bedford residents in need, the Town of Bedford has established a temporary food bank at John Glenn Middle School (JGMS). The Bedford Food Bank will be operating a drive-up service at JGMS, and will be open every Friday from 12pm - 4pm until further notice.

As a reminder, the Food Bank is for the following groups: school-aged children/families of the Bedford Public Schools in need of food support at this time (including, but not limited to, students currently on free or reduced breakfast and lunch), previously identified vulnerable seniors and veterans, and existing clients of the Bedford Food Pantry. For more information on the Food Bank, please visit www.bedfordma.gov/bedfordfoodbank.

There will be a separate food bank delivery system for homebound seniors and disabled residents. If you are homebound resident, and in need of food assistance, please e-mail bedfordfoodbank@bedfordma.gov.

If you would like to donate to the Bedford Food Bank, you can do so here
