Let's Learn About...
Initially this month we were going to highlight an awesome State Sport Association that was running fabulous programs we thought you would love to be able to go and participate in.

Unfortunately (but necessarily), this sport, along with most others, has postponed their programs for your safety and the safety of their staff and volunteers. We will save learning about this, and many other sports, for a day when we can all go and give it a go after learning about it. Hopefully it's not too far away!

BUT, we all still need to be active, even if we are at home. So this month... Let's learn all about getting active at home!

We have put together a list of projects and resources to help you and your family get active, but there are heaps more out there. Give these a go, and let us know if there is anything we should add to the list?

Love Sport? Let's learn about... Being active at home

Pegasus Project

Catching made easy? Yes please.

During PE classes, there are a range of fundamental movement skills taught, and mastering them allows children to actively participate in sport and recreation activities. Learning these skills through positive experiences allows children to fall in love with movement and encourages them to grow up to lead healthy and active lives.

Have you heard of Disability Sport Victoria's Pegasus Mentor Project? They are all about helping students with disabilities get involved and have a great time during PE at school. Awesome. They mentor teachers and work with the students and their families to develop achievable challenges, and increase participation and inclusiveness.

Now, they have given us some tips on how to teach catching, a fundamental motor skill, at home to children on the autism spectrum and children who use wheelchairs. There are detailed information sheets that you can use to help your child develop skills while they are at home, and get them ready for when they can return to school.
