tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

🎬 Setting up for movie night. Celebrate finishing a good book by watching the adaptation of it. Favorites like To All the Boys I Loved Before and The Ghost Bride are available on Netflix to stream right now.

🤳 Taking care of our mental health. Whether you went to therapy before or thinking about it now,
these tips can help you successfully navigate telehealth. Hint: find a quiet space and set boundaries to make you more comfortable and the whole process smoother.

💐 Brightening up with blooms. Flowers are a beautiful addition to any space, but sadly don't last forever.
Faux flowers look like the real deal and will go just as great with your home aesthetic. Pro tip: spray with perfume for the full effect.

🛁 Bringing the spa home. If you've been missing out on a quality spa day,
simple additions to your bath from olive oil to flower petals will amp up the luxury and just might do the trick. #countusin

bedtime stories

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

LIFESTYLE  For when virtual experiences are our social life lines ~ Zoom cocktail making classes and virtual museum tours have popped up left and right to replace the real thing. But is it really the same? "'The same' is too high a bar to set for these experiences. Nobody is advertising that these virtual tours and classes will provide an identical experience to one in person, but rather they’re a way to support docents and guides and bartenders who would otherwise be out of work. But even then, it’s too easy to recall the other version of this experience, the one where your conversation isn’t studded with glitching video, where you can shake the bartender’s hand after he’s taught you how to make a lemon twist, where even after you’ve found a quiet spot at the top of Machu Picchu where it feels like you’re the only person in the whole world, you can walk back down and watch everyone else having their own moments of transcendence without ever having to ask them about it ... Anyway, I love Cosmos now, so at least there’s that."

HEALTH  For when you're letting it all hang out ~ We're right there with you. Underwire bras in self-isolation certainly don't make our cut for comfy lounge wear. Whether it's best practice, well that's actually up to you: "'Depending on the woman and the size of her breasts, even movement as low-key as walking around a living space or going up and down stairs can increase the risk of straining the skin beyond its natural limit.' Even for those who don’t exercise, there’s an issue of comfort. For some people, shedding a bra is the ultimate freedom. But for others, including those who have breast pain, as [Joanna Wakefield-Scurr, a professor of biomechanics] herself does, a bra is not an option, but a necessity."

RELATIONSHIPS  For when quarantine dating is nothing like Love is Blind ~ Tinder and Bumble might provide some human interaction, but dating in quarantine can be a lot messier (and more boring) than it seems: "I learned pretty quickly that I had no desire, whatsoever, to discuss the minutiae of my newly home-bound life with anyone. Especially someone who I was meeting for the first time, albeit via dating app. And were they copy and pasting that same question to every girl they matched with? I had a feeling the answer was a resounding yes. Don’t vilify me, but I left most of those dudes on read. I was more interested in the men who asked me questions about the prompts in my profile, like my perfect food (a chocolate chip walnut cookie from Levain Bakery) and what I’d do with $1 million dollars (go to Mars, on a budget trip)."

WELLNESS  For when astrology replaces charcuterie boards in the name of self-care ~ Self-care can mean different things for different people (and it should!). Maybe it's mediating, journaling, or even checking what the stars have in store for you this week: "If your self-care routine typically includes learning more about yourself and pursuing self-improvement, astrology can help you on that journey more than you might realize. According to Adina Mahalli, certified mental health consultant and spiritual coach for Maple Holistics, the recent popularity of personality tests and astrology shows that many of us are trying to gain deeper insight into our traits. And while we all have some blindspots with our own personalities, astrology can offer a succinct definition of our characteristics that we can look at objectively."

  • 💃 "My boss started having mini dance breaks around lunch everyday. She gets us together on Zoom, fires up the Spotify, and we all let loose on our screens haha. It's a great morale booster when we can't be together in the office." ~ Miranda S.
