May Day ~ May Pole Dance
May 2020 Newsletter
I probably used this picture in a past newsletter but it is so cute, I just had to use it again. (Thank you https://teagansbooks.com/2014/04/30/happy-may-day/ ) There is so much about May Day, feel free to Google it and learn what it means to you.

Sorry for the delay in this newsletter. I have been working on it for 3 days and things keep coming up that need to be added to it not to mention, because everyone is working (and playing) on the internet, my service has become painfully slow.

  SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
During the current condition affecting live events nationwide, many have cancelled or postponed until later in the year. Please check the Event Calendar or Facebook before heading out to attend.

 CANCELLATIONS/POSTPONEMENTS
If any one knows of a cancellation or postponement, please do NOT call, text or message me rather EMAIL the Name, Date, AND City AND State AND new date,  if applicable, to Karen@dollshowusa.com  This is the only way I can stay organized.

 ALTERNATIVES TO PHYSICAL EVENTS
Several promoters are going on to develop "online" or "virtual" doll/bear selling events. If you remember, I attempted to do this back in 2016-2017 which ended because of lack of interest. I also attempted to do a virtual live show during the National Doll Festivals held in both Phoenix and Nashville but didn't produce much results for all the work required. That being said, to be fair, Bear artists have continued to run online/virtual shows several times a year through Bearhugs4u.com and Bright-Star-Promotions.com and appear to work well for them over the years. This year, since the Quinlan Conference was cancelled, Bearhugs4u.com has set up an online show for them that includes artist dolls as well. It is important to know that my knowledge about these events is very limited as they do not submit their information to me for submission to the site (I do not know why) and I only find out about them at the last minute with not enough time to post. I do know that the Quinlan event is going on right now until tomorrow, Sunday, May 3rd, 2020 (EDT).

 NEW or REVIVED ONLINE/VIRTUAL EVENTS
NOTE: Each Event has their own criteria, policy, systems and time frames. Many are a last minute thing or at least me finding out about it at the last minute and some are just figuring it out as they go. I feel like I know a little bit more as I have done it before and thoroughly researched how to approach a system to make it more user friendly but again, I'm not an expert. I just go by what I like to see when using the internet.

Here is what I have on the calendar so far...

The Mother of the Kewpies
Posted April 20, 2020 in Dolls
by Ruby Lane

Rose Cecil O’Neill was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on June 25, 1874 into an Irish Catholic family. Her father was a bookseller and an ardent admirer of the arts, her mother was a teacher and a performer. Rose had 5 younger siblings (2 sisters and 3 brothers). Her father struggled to support his family but was determined to educate Rose and somehow involve her in the arts. She exhibited a natural ability to draw from an early age.  When she was thirteen Rose submitted an illustration to a children’s contest held by the Omaha Herald, winning first prize. <CONTINUE>
