tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

💆‍♀️ Putting ourselves first. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so prioritize your well-being with the Mental Wellness Challenge. Start with a happiness workout and try new self-care practices all month long.

🥬 Meal prepping Spring veggie goodness.
Recipes for vegetarian dishes like curried chickpea stew or a gnocchi lasagna (omg) make adding greens on our plates that much easier and even more delicious.

✂️ Making it from the heart. Step up your new craft skills into
meaningful, homemade gifts for your loved ones to cherish, such as scented candles from scratch or a mason jar terrarium.

🛁 Crossing out the Sunday scaries.
Re-evaluate your current nighttime routine now that many of us are working from home. In other words, spend more time relaxing than you would have getting ready for tomorrow. #Zzz

bedtime stories

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

 UPLIFTING
For when we're crossing our fingers for The Office reunion ~ In the meantime, we'll delight in all other good news with Jim: "The mission of John Krasinski’s quarantine response series is right there in the title: delivering Some Good News at a moment when it is in unprecedentedly short supply. The weekly 'news program' is formally indebted to 'Weekend Update,' but it’s after uplifting smiles, cathartic tears, and warm-fuzzy reassurance instead of laughs. In each episode, Krasinski narrates dozens of viral clips demonstrating humanity’s resilience and passion for choreographed dance routines, spotlights heartwarming Americans, and facilitates interactions between said Americans and well-meaning celebrities. It’s wholesome and canny coronavirus counterprogramming — the first episode has been viewed more than 17 million times — that’s also wholesome and canny career management by Krasinski, who, with SGN, is slipping into the role of America’s Quarantine Dad easily, as if it were a pair of slippers."

LIFESTYLE  For when this one isn't for the homebodies ~ FYI Zoom's 'Leave Meeting' button is in the top left corner, which may come in handy for extroverts who are feeling the social burnout: "It’s 7:56 p.m., and I’m just crawling out of bed after a post-work catnap. I have a Zoom 'happy hour' in four minutes, so I take a few minutes to dab concealer under my eyes and on a zit on my chin. I run a brush through my hair, throw on a shirt that doesn’t scream 'I was just asleep,' and log on. This is my fifth call of the day, though the first four were business related. I have four more online meetups with friends on my calendar for this week. And I’m worn out. I have what experts are calling 'Zoom fatigue,' a very particular kind of exhaustion that results from constant face-to-face digital interactions, both professional and personal."

WELLNESS  For when our new hobbies are more than fun ~ According to one writer who's learning French again, they're acts of self-investment and hope for the future: "Making sense of all the references and colloquialisms took close to an hour for just 20 pages of the book, but figuring it all out was immensely satisfying. And right now, I can certainly use an activity that totally absorbs me; reading and decoding the passages is mentally demanding, but it’s something I look forward to, which is invaluable. Revisiting French also inspires me to stay optimistic about what the future may hold. Do I dare to hope to use the language while traveling one day? I don’t know. Maybe tomorrow’s reading will go faster, but honestly, it’s okay if it doesn’t."

FUN  For when April showers bring May flowers ~ This is what your zodiac sign has in store for you this month: "We’re getting ready to buckle up for some serious self-reflection in May, as we welcome three major retrogrades to help us evolve from our former selves. The world is becoming a new place, and with it, we are given a chance to change for the better ... Take a moment to reflect on your behavior this year. This transit gives us the opportunity to become more enlightened versions of ourselves. Now is the time to write new rules that will guide us once the planet goes direct again on September 29. Also on May 11, speedy Mercury enters chatty Gemini. This encourages us to socialize and connect with others. This energy also helps us to explore new subjects and try out new hobbies. Enjoy exploring different activities, and see what sticks."

Last week we asked where do you want to go once this is finally over? Thanks for adding to our list too 🤗

🛣️ "Work! I love my job! I'm a Librarian at a public library. I miss the community, patrons, staff, the building, the work. I would go to work and hang out with friends for happy hour, afterwards. <3" ~ Jen W.

🛣️ "Over the phone, I asked my turned-84yo-in-quarantine mom in Buffalo where she wants to go when this is all over, and she actually sang 'Wegmans!' in a loud voice. (For the uninitiated, it's the best supermarket in the world, constantly winning awards for happy employees and happy customers, and it's just plain amazing)." ~ Julie B.

🛣️ "DC for a girls' trip!" ~ Charley P.

🛣️ "TARGET" ~ Nicole R.
