tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

📦 Making life easier. The necessities we need were already a hassle to get, but now more than ever. These subscription services can automate chores from getting your go-to cup of coffee to (of course) buying toilet paper.

🎉 Having a girls' night over Zoom. Rather than host yet another happy hour, hang out with your besties in a yoga session, skincare routine show-and-tells, and
other virtual self-care group activities. #WellnessWednesday

🐶 Thanking our pups. Dogs have truly lived up to being the best companions during quarantine, so reward your best pal with
some homemade dog treats. Also great if you're tired of baking bread (ahem, us 👋).

🛏️ Exercising from bed. Sounds too good to be true, but it's the real deal and fitness professional-approved. Try a little morning workout with ankle circles, dolphin planks, and
more from the comfort of your sheets. #weCANhaveitall

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

 WELLNESS
For when it's time to detox your feed ~ Headlines and breaking news can be anxiety inducing to say the least. Recognize when it feels overwhelming and take a step back for some mindful fresh air: "The pandemic will remain at the top of the headlines for a long time, so finding some sort of balance between staying knowledgeable about what’s going on and also practicing self-care is crucial. Ideally, it's time to step away when you start to feel even an inkling of anxiety, but that’s not always how our minds work. Often, the anxiety we feel will creep up on us from behind, and capture our minds long before we ever realize it’s there. By the time we figure out we’re spiraling into an anxiety attack, we’re already in the middle of it ... The bottom line is whatever you do during these uncertain times, self-care should be guiding your every decision."

CULTURE  For when 13 Going on 30 had the right idea all along ~ Add the classic comedy to your quarantine re-watch not only for the good feels but also for the relevant life lessons: "What I'm saying is maybe reality would be easier if I was secretly a 13-year-old trying to muddle through the day in adult drag. Who wants to be an adult right now anyway? All these big emotions and quotidian tasks, with a thousand Zoom login links littering the surface of our existential dread. Jenna is terrified of the supposedly normal parts of her adult life — her hot boyfriend, her cellphone, getting into cars with strangers — but she's fearless about charging the dance floor to perform 'Thriller' or pivoting to a new direction for her magazine. One of the movie's big ideas is that often, we find we've had the skills to meet the challenge of the present for much longer than we thought."

HEALTH  For when we're eating our way to better skin ~ FYI the 'skin cleanse' is a good reason to load up on the guac and early summer smoothies: "This past month really threw me for a loop: I was dealing with a ton of personal issues and indulging in food and alcohol to cope. So, earlier this month I was left with puffy, dull, acne-prone skin. I was ready to try something new. Enter: the "Skin Cleanse" ... First of all, I noticed that my acne was pretty much non-existent, except for some under my chin when my period hit. I also found that my skin was definitely glowing — I didn’t need to apply as much foundation as I did previously, and I also realized that my puffiness had pretty much disappeared. I could finally see my cheekbones again! My blackheads were unfortunately still there, although less (I blame the NYC air)."

SELF  For when a smile a day keeps the doctor away ~ Keeping up moods during a pandemic can be a tough ask, but doing so and letting yourself be happy comes with benefits: "'Positive moods can help boost our immune system,' says Laurie Santos, a professor of psychology at Yale University and the host of the critically acclaimed podcast, The Happiness Lab. 'There's also evidence that people with more positive moods are less susceptible to respiratory infections. That means that making sure you experience moments of joy can be important for your physical health and your immune function, just like washing your hands and eating healthy.' There's another key thing to think about right now: Finding ways to be happy will sustain you for the long haul."
