The Citadel holds virtual graduations for the first time
in its history
The COVID-19 pandemic created many challenges for The Citadel. Faculty members had to work diligently the week of Spring Break to move learning online and administrators had to come up with a plan to hold graduation in a virtual format. After weeks of planning, they created a way to celebrate the SCCC and CGC Class of 2020.

Dr. James Bezjian part of team producing medical masks for Lowcountry health care workers
When the COVID-19 pandemic took over our lives, a team of innovators at The Citadel went to work to protect health care workers.  BSB professor Dr. James Bezjian, along with Dr. Sarah Imam and Dan Hawkins, decided to put the colleges 3D printers to work to make medical masks for Lowcountry professionals.

Baker Business Bowl goes on despite COVID-19  pandemic
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the final round of the Baker Business Bowl went on as planned, but in a different format.  In keeping up with the entrepreneurial spirit of the competition and being respectful of the need for special separation, the event was held in a virtual environment.

Three BSB professors retire
The end of the academic year brings retirement for three professors. Mike Barth, Ron Green and Al Katz are leaving the BSB after a combined total of 51 years of serving the Baker School of Business as an administrator and/or faculty member.

Marketing class works with
area organizations
In my marketing principles class taught by Dr. Kirsten Passyn, the class was tasked with client projects that allowed us to work with local companies such as Camp Rise Above, Anderson Insurance, Vantage Point, Charleston Pops, and Hustle Smoothie Bar.

Dean's Message
“May you live in interesting times.”  This phrase is often referred to as an ancient Chinese curse, but no known Chinese source actually exists for the phrase.  Despite the muddy attribution, it seems appropriate for today’s situation.  These times are interesting and unprecedented for most of us.

Profesors assists small businesses affected by COVID-19
Dozens of businesses in the Charleston area are suffering because of COVID-19. In an effort to help these organizations, BSB professors are offering pro-bono services via Profs on Call to help businesses get through these turbulent times.

Bastin Hall construction continues
Although most of The Citadel campus has shut down due to the COVID-19, construction of Bastin Hall continues. THS Constructors and Liollio Architecture are working hard through the pandemic to keep construction going, and if all stays on schedule, we could move into the new home of the Baker School of Business in late August or September.

* Congratulations to our Professors of the Year * Congratulations to our Students of the Year * The BSB welcomed 21 students into Beta Gamma Sigma, a national business honor society. An invitation to membership in Beta Gamma Sigma indicates a student’s placement in the top 10% of the senior class, the top 10% of the junior class, or the top 20% of the master’s program.

* Dr. Jeremy Bennett has been selected as a 2020 Forty Under 40 winner by the Charleston Regional Business Journal.

Dr. Stacey Nutt and Dr. Susan Wright co-authored the article "Ethics and the Social Contract" which was published in Strategic Finance

* Dr. Sykes Wilford spoke about Brexit and its implications at the PKF O'Connor Davies conference in early March before the COVID shutdown.

* For the second year in a row, an article co-authored by Dr. David Shepherd entitled “Do they shop to stand out or fit in? The luxury fashion purchase intentions of young adults,” was recognized by Wiley Publications as the top downloaded and most read article. 

* Professor Maria Aselage's article, "Traditional Media is not Dead," was published by Charleston CEO.

* "Certainty of death and taxes: What the statistics reveal after 230 years," written by Professor Cindy Bolt Lee, was published in the Charleston Regional Business Journal.

* Dr. Kwangsoo "Kevin" Lim and seven members of Beta Alpha Psi attended and presented “The Impact of The Citadel Beta Alpha Psi" at the BAP regional conference. The student participants included: Thomas Campbell, Connor Hughes, Kevin Nakai, Patrick Peters, Frank Robards, David Stewart and Matthew Wall.

* The Class of 2020 voted to award the John O. Willson Ring to Richard “Ben” Snyder, regimental commander and BSB graduate. This honor has been awarded annually since 1911 to a senior elected by their peers as the finest, purest and most courteous member of the class.

* Jeffrey "Hunter" McGee, an Accounting major, earned the prestigious position of First Honor Graduate at the SCCC virtual commencement ceremony.

* Our MBA program was featured in The Citadel newsroom and in a radio commercial

* Several of our BSB graduates were featured in The Citadel newsroom.

* It was "business as usual" for the BSB faculty and staff after leaving campus due to COVID-19. They attended faculty meetings and the spring retreat via Zoom.
