It is quite another world since we sent the February e-news.

A special COVID-19 edition of Kaya Cooby for May has been printed, and is all but delivered as we write this (we were a bit short on newsletters, so if you missed out on a hard copy, our apologies! You can find it on our homepage or click on the image below.) We have focused on support and services for people in Coolbellup, plus some of our exciting news:
  • We were SUCCESSFUL in two separate grant applications - a budget submission for a community wall near the Coolbellup Library, and a community grant to run more community conversations.
  • Our Community Pantry is just opposite the bakery in the old shopping centre - please feel free to give when you can, take when you need.
  • We will be running a Virtual Community Cuppa being NEXT Saturday 23rd May 2.30-3.30 - see below for details. We'd love to "see" you there.
  • You can always catch up with our latest - it's all on the website: minutes of meetings, e-news, newsletters... Jump online and have a look. We have a new, short, easy to remember link for our website too! https://bit.ly/CoobyCommunity
We really hope you are doing well and hope to see you soon in our suburb!

We are having a coffee catch-up next Saturday, 23rd May on Zoom. If you haven't used this platform before, it is a free, downloadable app you can have on your phone, tablet or computer. It allows for a relaxed and interactive discussion from the comfort of your own home. You can expect a safe, lively and friendly virtual catch-up. Meet some new people, find out a bit more about all the things that are currently going on and how you can get involved. Free to attend. Just bring your own coffee!

Click here to book your free spot! A link to attend the Zoom event will be sent to you after registration

Grants and Submissions

We are really excited by these opportunities City of Cockburn has provided for us and we'll be getting started on these projects in the coming months. If you want to get involved, just email us at coobyca@gmail.com, or jump on our Community Cuppa conversation to find out more.
CONSULTATION PERIOD OPEN - CLOSES 28th MAY

Please see this City of Cockburn webpage with details of how you can have your say. There is a free workshop next Saturday 23rd May from 10-11.30 on Zoom. The survey closes 28th May.

This webpage shares what City of Cockburn has achieved - let's build on this! What about subsidised solar panels, water tanks? More electric vehicle re-charging stations? What other ideas do you have?

Cooby Community Pantry - open for your donations!

The Coolbellup Community Association responded to a community request to develop a Community Pantry. We have set it up in the old shops, just opposite the bakery. We borrowed from the experience of the City of Fremantle Library, and the City of Wanneroo community pantry. They gave advice about what to donate, how to run it. Essentially, the point of this is that it is not controlled - people give when you can, take when you need. There are a few of us in a chat group who keep an eye on it. Let us know if you want to join this and help us keep it running well.

Just look at our beautiful next generation of Cooby children from Sonas Early Learning and Care taking some donations to the Community Pantry! See the flyer below for guidance on what to donate. New purchases please :)

NEW Home delivery service offered by the old Coolbellup Shops - support our local businesses! To place an order or find out more, email coolbellupfresh@gmail.com or call 0448 458 309

Next Cooby Swap and Share Saturday 6th June
Given that from 18th May the limit of people who can attend outdoor gatherings has been raised to 20, we are excited to announce the first Swap and Share gathering post-COVID-19. The Cooby Swap and Share is an independent community initiative where keen gardeners swap garden products and knowledge. You can bring whatever you can give from your garden, take what you need.
The swap runs from 10:00-11:00. However, any helping hand for the setup and wrap-up is welcome from approx 9:30 am.

Cooby's own mobile musicians!

Did you see our fabulous travelling musicians on Anzac Day weekend??

Thank you Robert and Scarlett - a father-daughter free musical performance that lifted everyone's spirits!
