04 May, from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command - NSW Police Force

About 10am Saturday 2 May 2020, Kuring Gai Highway Patrol police were patrolling north upon the M1 Mtwy in the vicinity of Berowra. At this time a blue Ferrari Testarossa was observed travelling ahead of the police vehicle changing lanes and driving at high speed. The HWP vehicle commenced a check speed of the Ferrari up to 160kph in the sign posted 110kph area as it moved through light traffic. The vehicle slowed to the posted 110kph limit and was followed with the intention of stopping it in the truck rest area at Hawkesbury River, Mooney Mooney. Prior to initiating the vehicle stop the Ferrari increased speed substantially as it drove through light traffic on the ascent to the Hawkesbury River. The vehicles speed was checked at 201kph and continued to accelerate away from the HWP vehicle. The speed of the Ferrari at one point was estimated at no less than 230kph. Police came to the rear of the Ferrari at the Hawkesbury River bridge and initiated the vehicle stop in the heavy vehicle rest area at Mooney Mooney.

The 41 year old male driver from Lilyfield was spoken to and replied, "I'm just getting a feel for the car." A penalty notice was issued for exceeding the speed limit in excess of 45kph. ($2482 & 6 demerit points). The drivers licence was confiscated and suspended for a period of 6 months. The vehicle's registration was not suspended as the driver was not the owner of the vehicle. The driver was also warned about non essential travel as per the Health Ministers Covid-19 order.

04 May, from Ku-ring-gai command: LETTER FROM A THIEF:

Dear resident, please leave your car unlocked in your driveway or on street so it is easier for me to break into. It would help me greatly if you left your garage door unlocked or even open and come to think of it, make sure you don’t lock your car doors. This way I can quietly break in and take your things without waking you. I know you’re asleep and I’d hate to interrupt that. I really don’t like the sound of smashing glass. I’d prefer to get in and get out without any fuss or noise at all.

I love it when you leave your wallet or purse in the centre console, especially where I can see it, because I know they contain your credit cards and cash. It’s amazing just how much I can purchase with a stolen credit card before you notice it missing and cancel it.

To those of you of who leave your laptops on the seat, again, thank you – I have a mate who can crack your password.

Although not the most important thing to me, I want you to know that I appreciate your expensive gym gear, shoes in particular, or any other personal items you leave in your car – I’ll take them, as I usually carry a bag with me to store my newly acquired property – I can give them as a gift to someone worse off than you.

**********************************************************************

Unfortunately, there has been a recent increase of Steal from motor vehicles in and around the Hornsby, Waitara, Turramurra and Pymble areas.

The main property stolen in these were cash, credit cards, laptops and personal items.

Please be vigilant when leaving your vehicles parked overnight, whether in your garage, driveway or in the street. Ensure you lock your vehicles at all times.
Don’t leave valuables within sight of passers-by – better still, where possible, please don’t leave any valuables in your vehicle at any time.

02 May, Shared with permission from the Mt Colah/Kuring-gai Families group:

Evening all,
Just a word of warning, my car on Leeming Street was broken into early Friday Morning. Please be vigilant with your cars on the streets!

I rang Hornsby Police and the officer informed me of no previous suspicious activity around the Mount Kuring-Gai/Mount Colah area as of late 🤔.

If you notice anything suspicious please call Hornsby Police 9476 9799 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.

And in the comments:

An old guy was caught inside a car and arrested on Easter Monday in Mt Colah and the same guy was caught on CCTV in Hornsby in July last year, Cowan in December and Berowra.
He gave a false ID and is on the streets again.
He gets into cars and takes what he can get, has been in film around 1am - 3:30am.

Did he take anything? Thankfully no! All the doors were left open and it was obvious it had been searched thru.

The guy caught Easter Monday and seen in all the other footage has been a pest in the area for months. He searches unlocked cars for loose change and anything else of interest, completely brazen in snooping around your property while you're asleep. He was caught red handed and arrested (we personally witnessed) only to be released and the police are now aware that in that instance he gave them a false name and address so will not face any consequences. Looks like he's wasted no time getting back into it! So sad that anyone from Hornsby Police told you there has been no suspicious activity as this is the opposite of the truth, they've fielded and supposedly investigated multiple complaints over the past year!

01 May, Shared with permission from the South Turramurra Community group:

Hi everybody, my son 'lost' his iPhone 8 yesterday at the South Turramurra IGA. It's a little different to most iPhones as it is a distinct red colour in a heavy duty case. We have asked the IGA and had a look for it but cant find it. As soon as he lost it, it was turned off so we cant contact it or use Find my phone. Please, he is very upset about it and if anyone knows its whereabouts please let me know. I am offering a reward for its return. DM if you need my contact details. Thanks Matt.

30 April, from 9news.com.au: Teenager, 13, 'spits on bus driver' in Sydney while out on bail
A woman and a teenager will both face court today over separate alleged spitting incidents involving frontline workers.
The first instance occurred last Thursday when three girls boarded a bus in Mosman on Sydney's north shore.
As she was getting off the bus a 13-year-old allegedly spat at the bus driver. Yesterday she was arrested at a house in East Killara and was taken to Chatswood Police Station.

The girl was charged with common assault and breach of bail. She was refused bail to appear at a children's court today.
In a separate incident a woman is accused of spitting on a worker at a fast food restaurant at Eagle Vale, in Sydney's south-west.
Police were called to the outlet after the 51-year-old alleged spat at the 18-year-old employee when her card failed while she attempted to pay for her food.
She is also accused of shattering a glass door at the shop.
