Israel has plans to annex large areas of the West Bank. Here is a statement from Global Ministries of United Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ in the US opposing the annexation: Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) Opposes Israeli Annexation and Sec. Pompeo's U.S. Greenlighting.

Over 100 British MPs signed a letter this month calling for sanctions against Israel if the annexation goes ahead.

HOW TO BE EFFECTIVE DURING COVID-19

Despite the pandemic and closing of many public spaces, we can continue to do advocacy. In fact, many injustices are being exacerbated by the pandemic. If you are struggling for ideas  or inspiration of how to continue doing education and advocacy, here are a few suggestions: "Advocacy for Justice: How to be effective during Covid-19."

Speaker Videos

Videos from UNJPPI's 2019 Gathering in Ottawa and a summary report from may be found on the Gathering website. The videos include presentation by the following:

“The drastic cut in US aid under the Trump Administration has left hospitals in East Jerusalem seriously under-equipped and ill-prepared to deal with the COVID-19 virus. The Israeli government has been slow to respond to requests for help, and, until recent weeks, had not registered the number of cases in East Jerusalem or majority Arab cities within Israel. As Israel begins to lift restrictions, identifying and treating those
with the virus is becoming more and more important.”

Some choices in giving through the United Church to Palestine:
Near East Council of Churches – the one partner we have in Gaza.
Other partners working in the West Bank and East Jerusalem that you can choose to support: The Near East Council of Churches  staff live and work in Gaza and  serve the most vulnerable: women, children, the elderly. NECC health clinics are doing their best to continue providing health care with the reality of COVID-19. In order to protect those regularly using their services and prevent cross -infection, NECC clinic staff are reducing waiting time to the minimum, trying to treat each patient as quickly as possible, meanwhile maintain quality and safety. They are changing the flow of patients in the clinics to reduce the possibilities of infection transmission.  For example, beneficiaries with no medical conditions should follow a track that is different from the sick people. Teaching staff about extra measures to protect patients and themselves.

Here is a reflection from recently returned EA, Keith Simmonds who served in Bethlehem:

"I don't know what I was thinking. Taking my sabbatical in Occupied Palestine? Spending three months living in who knows what conditions, literally under the guns of the Israeli Military? Walking children to school under those same guns, watching as their parents (driven off the land by Israeli colonies) were checked by guards before being allowed the privilege of providing low wage labour for Israeli employers? Standing helplessly while homes are demolished and farms are uprooted by Military bulldozers? Being screamed at and photographed by Israeli colonizers who 'know' taking Palestinian land is a god-given right?

What was I thinking? Spending three months in the Holy Land, witnessing unholy acts. Finding fellowship and community amongst peace builders from Palestine, Israel and folk like me, from other countries in the world. Being taught again, and again, and again, that fear and violence only beget more of the same. Going to church in Bethlehem, praying at Golgotha, standing at the Wailing Wall, pasturing sheep with shepherds where David pastured his...

What was I thinking? I know I'll never think in the same way again...visit Palestine for three months and help change lives. Your own may be the first."
