I’m not saying anything new when I say we don’t know how things will continue to evolve with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But one thing is for sure – we will have an election in November. Even during the Civil War and the 1918 flu epidemic, general elections were never cancelled.
We don’t know what the 2020 election will look like but there are a lot of ideas being floated about ways to keep voters safe on election day.
Here at the Tulsa League, we’re doing our work as well as we can. Things may have slowed down, but they haven’t stopped. While voter registration events have come to a halt for the most part and we’ve postponed our annual fundraiser until August (for now), we’re still holding our monthly committee and board meetings, virtually.
We’re also planning on hosting candidate forums ahead of the June, August, and November elections. They’ll just look a bit different from our usual forums. Watch for more on those.
Our program committee also has some ideas about how to keep our members engaged. They’re working on discussion groups around topical issues such as voting by mail, climate change, and immigration. Watch for more on that as well.
