Pastor Sharon urged us to "find ways to step into the world this week without leaving your home to share Christ with others."

Here are a few ways we can do that:

UMCOR is celebrating for the entire year! It's their 80th birthday and they have many worthy projects you can help with. They have created a Covid-19 Response, they have responses for the recent hurricanes, they have something for Earth Day. It's your choice. And there are way more things than can be listed here.  Just follow this link to UMCOR and see how you can help.

Nativity House, where we help with socks, gloves, scarves and hats is looking for people to help prepare food, deliver food, be pen pals to children and many other things. You can contact Shannon Cline, Volunteer Coordinator, ShannonCl@ccsww.org or 253-365-4111.

Raising Girls Local non-profit serving girls in our communities. In need of full-size hygiene products, feminine hygiene products, people to write inspirational and uplifting cards to the girls, and much more. Learn more on their website.

Africa University, a UM related institution in Zimbabwe is producing their own sanitizer. Sanitizer is currently in short supply there and we all know how important it is in fighting Corona virus. The AU-branded hand sanitizer will be available to the public at an affordable cost thanks to a gift from Old Mutual. There are many ways we can also help Africa University -- just follow the link above.

You know how in movies you get to watch trailers - those snippets that make you want to go to see the move (or at this point in time, maybe rent it or get it on Netflix or Hulu or whatever?)
Consider this your trailer for a really cool and fantastic something that is further along in the newsletter.
Ok, it's also the enticement to get you to read the newsletter.
We know that we have not met for worship and so you have not had the opportunity to share your tithes and offerings for this month.
We would encourage you to mail your donations to the church or, if you use your bank's  "Bill Payer" option for routine payments, please consider adding the church to that list.

Did you know that through your bank's "bill pay" you could set up recurring (weekly, monthly, etc.) payments to make sharing your gift even easier? While most banks do not have open lobbies, many of them are more than willing to take your phone call and help you get this set up.

Just one more way you can help us help others.

Your giving is a blessing to many.

This Week at Browns Point UMC
Currently, everything that is planned is on hold, cancelled or postponed.

Sunday Morning Worship
until Bishop Stanovsky issues a new update,
all "in person" worship services in the Greater NW Annual Conferences are suspended through May 30

Church Office Hours --
Sharon Meeds is in the office on Wednesday mornings to deal with "office" things.
The phones and email are being monitored from home.
Mail is being taken care of and the Counters come in once a week to deal with checks that we receive.

Paul Bern and Johnny Alexander are "checking in" on our building and grounds to make sure everything is as it should be.

Prayer Requests

Since we can't meet face-to-face to share our Prayer Requests and we can't list them on our Connection Cards, please remember to send your prayer requests to the church email address so that we get you or your loved one onto our prayer list.  We don't want to miss anybody who is in need of prayers.

This is an update to Bishop Stanovsky's letter regarding opening of the churches in the Greater Northwest Area:

EXTENSION OF WORSHIP SUSPENSION AND BUILDING CLOSURES

As bishop of the Greater Northwest Area of The United Methodist Church, I am extending the suspension of in-person worship in United Methodist Churches and other ministries and the closure of church facilities to all but essential services throughout the Alaska, Oregon-Idaho and Pacific Northwest Conferences through May 30, 2020, despite the loosening of restrictions in some or all of the states of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. This date may be reconsidered as circumstances change.

Your Pig on  Mission

Your pig must be getting full!   And still on a Mission!  Keep your Pig out in the Mission field and don't forget to help your pig get fuller and fuller!

Since we didn't get to return them in Palm Sunday, you will be able to bring them home in May! (we hope)
Think of the blessing it will be to our two groups that are going to benefit if you keep filling your Mission Pigs as a way to count your blessings!

A big "Welcome Home from Mission" is being thought about as a way to share our Pigs blessings with us and with those who they will bless.

And, it would be grand if each Pig had a check for all that's in his/her tummy sticking out of the coin slot -- a way to bless our wonderful Counters (but they will be happy to count change too)

Pigs on a Mission will benefit our friends at My Sister’s Pantry and UMCOR (their general fund, not a specific Advance number)

Youth Group Bake Sale - Postponed 'til later

They are raising money for their Sierra Service Project Mission Trip in June, when they will be going to Smith River, California, starting June 21.

Save This Date

Lifetime Learners Lunch - moved to June 4

We can order more books if needed and they are also available on Amazon.

Hi All,

NO REHEARSALS TILL YOU HEAR FROM ME

Our leadership has decided to close BPUMC through the end of April.  We'll support that abundantly cautious move by postponing our cantata preparation until further notice.

I'll miss you all.  Please take all preventative measures you can!

The book for May is "Where the Crawdad's Sing" by Delia Owens
Contact: lien.rhondas@gmail.com

(our scheduled April book will be held over for next year)

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens. Through Kya's story, Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

The Social Justice Book Group will not meet in March due to schedule conflicts for several members.  We will next meet on Tuesday, May 26 to discuss "A Better Planet:  Forty Big Ideas for a Sustainable Future", Daniel C. Etsy (Editor).  Come join us for a lively discussion on this important topic at a home close to the church.

Questions please contact Constance at cswank@mindspring.com

A practical, bipartisan call to action from the world’s leading thinkers on the environment and sustainability.

Sustainability has emerged as a global priority over the past several years. The 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change and the adoption of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals through the United Nations have highlighted the need to address critical challenges such as the buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, water shortages, and air pollution. But in the United States, partisan divides, regional disputes, and deep disagreements over core principles have made it nearly impossible to chart a course toward a sustainable future.

This timely new book, edited by celebrated scholar Daniel C. Esty, offers fresh thinking and forward-looking solutions from environmental thought leaders across the political spectrum. The book’s forty essays cover such subjects as ecology, environmental justice, Big Data, public health, and climate change, all with an emphasis on sustainability. The book focuses on moving toward sustainability through actionable, bipartisan approaches based on rigorous analytical research. (Yale University Press)

1st and 3rd Sundays of the month beginning
May through June 7.
Come and share ideas for things to learn,
things to do and updates on what's happening.

The planned Youth Bake Sale has been postponed to a later date.

Youth Medical Release/Permission form

There will be an All-Church Baby Shower for
Rev. Katie, Nathan and Kahlan!

The Youth Group is sponsoring the Shower and our Care Team will be providing cake.
The date is yet to be determined, but the time may be after 2nd Service -- but we wanted to let everybody know that there is a shower planned.
The "star" of the shower will very likely not be putting in an appearance - but her co-stars (at least Mom) will be there. (The second co-star will most likely have to stay home with the star -- you know how some stars can be such divas!)

The date still isn't sent --- but we wanted to share with you so that you can be thinking ahead for that special time when all is once again as it should be.

You will find Katie & Nathan's registry here:  Katie Klosterman

They are on Amazon, so if you are going to the registry, please sign in with your Amazon Smile (especially if you have BPUMC as your Smile partner!).  You can also look under "Registry" & then Baby Registry, put in Katie's name and city/state.

They have many things listed - join together with your group & get some wonderful items

Hello Brown’s Point Family!

I hope everyone is well and managing to stay healthy during this very challenging time.

We have GREAT NEWS to share!

Pastor Katie will return to church on May 17th!

We are so delighted to have her return to our congregation.  The family has been through so much and witnessed many miracles in the past several months.

While we are elated to have Pastor Katie back we are beyond grateful for Pastor Sharon’s generosity, kindness and service provided in Pastor Katie’s absence.

We are blessed that God has showed us such favor.

Please be mindful of the difficult transitions the family has been through.  Pastor Katie will need the next few weeks to prepare her return.  Her, Nathan and Baby Kahlan have a lot to get use to at their home.  Please keep all of them in your daily prayers.

And besides these, each of our 4 camps has something for kids of all ages from horseback riding to drama, to water sports to just having a great time getting to know and be with others of their age!

These are all camps that our Pacific NW Conference owns & operates.

GNW Shared Annual Conference canceled for 2020,
fall gatherings anticipated to deal with essential items

Bishop Elaine JW Stanovsky, in consultation with members of the Greater Northwest Area COVID-19 Crisis Management Team and District Superintendents, has made the difficult decision to cancel June’s Shared Annual Conference session in Puyallup, Wash.

The cancellation of the Shared Annual Conference Session and the likelihood of individual Annual Conference sessions this fall raises many questions about the process, timing and decision-making for things normally occurring in June. Bishop Stanovsky is working with leaders in each Conference to identify alternative ways to accomplish the necessary business. As more is known it will be shared through Conference communications. Your Conference leaders ask for your grace as they make difficult decisions during this unprecedented time in our history.

Plans for 2021 Annual Conferences await final determination about the dates of General and Jurisdictional Conferences, but if possible, Bishop Stanovsky hopes to reschedule the Gathered Session with all three Conferences in June of 2021.
