Dear Friends of Many Mothers,
A desperate mother reached out to us last Friday evening. She was home with her 7-month-old son and two-year-old daughter and called to ask what support we could provide. Our staff told her she could come in the following week for diapers, formula, and a grocery store gift card, but the mother said she was out of food, had no transportation, and that her babies were hungry.
Many Mothers has never been a crisis organization, but the COVID-19 pandemic has thrust us into this new role. What could we say, other than, “We’ll be there in an hour.” Our staff loaded a car with food, diapers, formula, and baby books, and met the mother at her house.
Through support from our partners, Many Mothers has created a new Babies’ Basic Needs Program to provide families who have little or no income with what they require most: Diapers and wipes, baby food, formula, gift cards to local grocery stores, Lyft cards for transportation, and rental assistance.
We have temporarily shelved our other programs as we pivot into our new role as a frontline crisis response team. In the spirit of Mother’s Day, we are asking for YOUR support to help us meet the growing needs of families during the pandemic.
