A message from Rotary District 9810 Governor Shia Smart about the Rotary DG Family Project Books for Kids Campaign.
|
|
One of the active Books in Homes fund-raising campaigns we've mentioned to you in the past is the Rotary DG Family Project Books for Kids Campaign, which has been organised by Rotary District 9810 in Melbourne and which was due to wind up mid year. However, District Governor Shia Smart recently advised us that with the Covid-19 causing havoc everywhere, Rotary is happy to defer the campaign until Term 1, 2021. By then (hopefully!) life will have returned to normal, and the new schools on the Program will be able to focus on rolling it out. Rotarians, as well as Ansvar Insurance who have committed $10,000 to the initiative via their Community Education Grant, will also be able to attend the various Book Giving Assemblies. We encourage you to donate to ensure that as many schools as possible from the Bay to the Hills of Melbourne can be added to the Program. You can DONATE HERE and we thank you for your generosity.
Speaking of generosity, we want to do a big shout out to those of you who have donated to our Postage Fund after a recent call out. We've raised $279 against a target of $2000. This will start the ball rolling in getting donated new books out to children in bushfire affected areas, as well as remote and Indigenous communities around Australia. If you can help nudge that figure towards the 25% funded mark of $500 then that would be great. Then hopefully we can stretch it to $1000 then $1500 until we reach the immediate short-term target within this ongoing campaign.
In the interim, we hope you and your families have been flourishing during lock-down and still remain safe and healthy. On the Program front we are continuing as before... the Term 2 Program is being switched into Term 3 (our usual non-operational term). We'll keep you posted on developments.
We also have some sad news... our wonderful volunteer Social Media Coordinator Kate Millar is leaving us. Kate is a writer, editor and communications professional from Brisbane. Kate has done a wonderful job managing our social media, in particular our Instagram page. Kate is about to set up her editing / writing small business. We wish her good fortune and will still stay in touch as she thrives and grows in a manner in which we know she will. Thanks, Kate.
And for those of you who haven't connected with us on social media, please Like, Add or Join us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for regular updates on the charity's activities.
