Of our 61 years of history, the Masque Theatre is perhaps facing its biggest challenge yet: with our doors closed because of the #lockdown, we face the real possibility that the doors may stay closed for good. Heading towards our Annual General Meeting, the theatre will need to make a call on whether we can stay open, or whether Corona forces us to close the doors on 61 years of community theatre.
And yet… We are excited.
We’re crowdfunding - and when we shared the campaign with a few of our supporters in a preview burst - we raised over R16,000 in just two hours. The truth is we need so relatively little to succeed that we believe with your help, we can do this and keep the doors open for another 61 years of theatrical wonder!

Even though our doors are closed, it has been a busy month for the Masque team online!
Our new Bertie’s Ghostlights initiative has hosted 11 events with over 76 online attendees, across 4 continents. There’s a beautiful benefit of being able to welcome international guests to our homes via Zoom, such as UK Theatre star Lucian Msamati, and New York actress Heather Massie.
Our “In conversation with” series is giving unique opportunities for young performers and theatre passionisa’s alike to meet some seriously inspirational people! Coming next week, we host the prodigious local talent, Greg Karvellas, Artistic Director of the Fugard Theatre.
