Coneman Tip of the Week: An Update on Mobility & Commuting Resources Following Governor Wolf’s May 1st Announcement

On Friday, May 1, Governor Wolf issued an update on the process to re-open Pennsylvania and shared that 24 counties will be moving from the red phase to the yellow phase on May 8. For all other counties, including Allegheny County, the stay-at-home order will remain in effect for at least the next several weeks. Although we’re all growing increasingly restless and want life to return to some degree of normalcy sooner rather than later, the best thing we can each do is to continue following social distancing protocol, limiting our travel and commuting to only essential trips/business sites, and practicing good hygiene.

For essential workers regularly commuting to work sites and those making essential trips by bus, light rail, or biking, below are some updated resources and information to take a look at ahead of your next commute:

•    Port Authority’s bus and light rail service continue to operate on a reduced schedule. As of Monday, May 4, the department will resume regular hours of operations. Visit Port Authority’s COVID-19 Updates website for additional information.
•    Healthy Ride continues to operate and serve the public! As of April 17, an update on current procedures and prevention methods was announced to help keep riders and staff healthy and safe. For essential workers that use transit to commute, don’t forget that Healthy Ride partnered with Port Authority to give free unlimited 15-minute trips to all ConnectCard users
•    Biking continues to be a great option for making essential trips and commuting to and from essential work sites. If you own a bike and need a maintenance tune-up or a bigger fix, don’t forget that bike shops have been deemed as essential businesses across Pennsylvania. Be sure to check out BikePGH’s list of bike shops that are open for business ahead of heading to your preferred bike shop!
