Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington

Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington (ACSGW) was established in 1983 as the collective health and social welfare arm of several local church congregations. Today, ACSGW is a faith-based, nonprofit organization whose mission is to help those less fortunate in our community. We empower those in need through compassionate emergency care, life education, and community development. ACSGW currently provides case management, food, clothing, emergency financial assistance, health and fitness programs, technology education, and job-training.

Our education/job-training programs include: English as a Second Language (ESOL), General Educational Development (GED), computer basics, advanced computer certification programs, and Job Quest workshops. ACSGW currently serves over 6000 low-income families each year. We take a holistic approach to serving this population by providing and growing programs that encourage participants to attain long-term solutions to their general and economic health and well-being.

ACSGW is a safe and understanding environment that works with families and individuals in the Washington Metropolitan Area who are in need of assistance, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, or sexual orientation.

CASA Pine Ridge Community Center

We are a group of passionate, community-conscious people working to organize, advocate for, and expand opportunities for Latino and immigrant people in the state of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. We do this by providing employment placement; workforce development and training; health education; citizenship and legal services; and financial, language, and literacy training to Latino and immigrant communities throughout the state. Since our humble beginnings in 1985 assisting Central American refugees fleeing wars and civil strife at home, we have worked tirelessly to bring immigrant communities in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania out of the shadows and into greater power, dignity, and legitimacy.

Access to quality education continues to be the single most important challenge facing the District of Columbia and the greater metropolitan region. CentroNía, a nationally recognized, award-winning educational organization provides affordable, quality early childhood education; professional development to educators; and family support services in a bilingual and multicultural environment to more than 2,400 low-income children and families. Our holistic approach ensures that the children and families we serve receive the support and encouragement they need to succeed academically, develop a strong sense of community, and live healthy and active lives. This includes an award-winning Food & Wellness Department that provides healthy meals for CentroNía’s community, and encourages children, parents, and staff to adopt healthy lifestyles by making informed food choices.

CHEER’s mission is to provide people with the knowledge and ability to create healthy, thriving communities. CHEER is a community-driven process for identifying community vision and goals, and for gathering the information and resources needed to measure and fulfill them.

CHEER's vision is to create safe and inclusive communities that produce equal opportunities for individual growth and fulfillment. These communities will value diversity, encourage personal social interactions, and offer a sense of common identity.

We are a Takoma Park and Silver Spring, Maryland-based non-profit organization that grew out of the Takoma Park Mobilization. We are all local volunteers who believe strongly in affirming values of inclusion and supporting immigrants no matter their origin or immigration status.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to assist immigrants to the United States by
  • Learning about challenges that immigrants and their families face and identifying ways to support them in overcoming those challenges.
  • Educating immigrants about the resources available to them and connecting them to these resources.
  • Providing social, emotional, material, financial and other types of support to immigrants facing serious challenges.
  • Encouraging positive community interactions between immigrants and non-immigrants. Through these interactions working to transcend barriers of race, language, ethnicity, country of origin, and social and economic class, to develop stronger, more vibrant communities.
  • Advocating for immigrants’ rights and needs in the local and broader community.

We are a human-centered network tackling root causes of racial and economic disparities.

At IMPACT, we offer a wide range of events and programs, ranging from potlucks and block parties to classes and workshops, where residents can meet, learn, and build community. From youth attending our sports programs to parents who are looking for ways to improve their family’s well-being, our programs are built to foster a strong, resilient community and build leaders with the tools to make lasting, systemic change in our community.

And with big changes coming to our area because of the Purple Line, now more than ever we need to stand together to make sure all of us benefit from the expanded customer base the Purple Line will bring.

We recognized early on that caring only for your physical health concerns was simply not enough. To put you and your family on a path towards good health, stability, and economic independence, we knew we had to look at every part of your life and offer the appropriate combination of healthcare, education, and social support. With this in mind, we developed our Social Change Model (SCM), which allows us to offer medical, dental, and behavioral health services for the entire family, along with social services and family literacy services – all under one roof.

The success of our model was further demonstrated by the final report of an evaluation that we solicited from the Urban Institute and analysis from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) which explains how this integrated approach has shown to make people healthier.

MHP serves more than 2,100 families in Montgomery County and beyond. The organization is committed to housing people, empowering families, and strengthening neighborhoods. Since 1989, MHP’s mission has been to preserve and expand access to quality, affordable housing.  We advance our mission through three key strategies:
  • By acquiring, rehabilitating, building and managing quality affordable housing.
  • By developing and implementing community life programs to improve the quality of life and increase opportunities for our residents.
  • By collaborating with concerned citizens and businesses, public officials and community organizations to build strong, vital neighborhoods.

Here at Spanish Speaking Community of Maryland, Inc. , we are driven by a single goal; to do our part in making the world a better place for all! We do this by empowering low-income families & immigrants from diverse backgrounds by promoting self-sufficiency, greater social change, education and legal rights.
