The Cutting Edge

May 1, 2020

Here's what's happening across our Conference, at least what I've heard about. Feel free to share this with anyone!
Hope Awakens continues this evening across our Conference. "We have over 1,500 guests, along with our members, regularly watching this." says Virgil Covel (Evangelism Coordinator). The one-hour presentations take place each Friday, Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (CT) and rebroadcast at 9:00 p.m. Go to hopeawakens.org shortly before the program to join.

How important is your fitness? Are there things you can do to help?

"And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near." -- Hebrews 10:25
"Our pastors at College View Church held a drive-up prayer service last Sabbath," says Pastor Michael Paradise. "We had 40+ cars come through for prayer, and it was a blessing to have some type of interaction with live people! We will plan something similar again soon."
"It’s not too late to join our group that will meet via Zoom to do the women’s Bible study, ONE IN A MILLION....  journey to your promised land, by Priscilla Shirer," says Sue Carlson (Women's Ministries Director). "We’ll get acquainted, watch the
video presentations and discuss what we watched. We begin meeting online from 9:00 - 10:30 am this Tuesday mornings: May 5. In order for you to be ready for our first session you'll want to order your book from our Adventist Book Center. Email Peggy at pkglass@ks-ne.org or call: 402 488 3395. You'll use the book each day as you reflect on your own journey and what we watched via Zoom. The following week, when we meet again we'll share some highlights of things we learned and then once again, watch the video presentation together. I think it will be a great time of fun and fellowship! There are only 7 sessions so you will want to try and be part of each one! Otherwise we will MISS YOU! Have Questions or want to join our group? Contact me at scarlson@ks-ne.org," says Sue.

"I keep adding resources to our web site for parents, Sabbath school teachers, club ministry leaders, and pastors to continue virtual ministry in these crazy times," says Tim Floyd (Youth/Young Adult Director). "Please  check out the page, there might be something there for you!" says Tim. Click here
"Our first road trip was amazing!" says Richard Young (Midland Adventist Academy principal). "We want everyone to know how much we love our students. We've divided our families geographically and we drive by to wave, say 'hi' and leave a sign so that you can be proud and your neighbors will know your school cares. We'll be doing more next week," says Richard.
"Adventist Education is alive and well in the Kansas-Nebraska Conference during these challenging times," says Jeff Bovee (Education Director). "I can’t say enough about our amazing teachers, administrators and support staff who are going above and
beyond to meet the academic and spiritual needs of our students. I am currently working to fill four teaching positions in our Conference (1-8 teacher – Topeka; K-3 teacher – High Plains (Garden City); K-4 teacher – Omaha; and Bible and Spanish teacher – Midland Adventist Academy). Please pray with me that we find the right individuals for these positions," says Jeff.
"Gorgeous2God is a place where you'll find discussions on Faith, Real life, Guy Talk, Healthy Living, and more," says Sue Carlson (Women's Ministries Director). "This is where teens can get answers for tough questions and talk about challenges in a safe place. This is run by the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists and is not meant to replace therapy or professional
help in any way. The G2G blog has been visited by more than 2,100 NEW visitors this month! Check it out!" Here’s the link to our WM page for Teens on our website," says Sue.
"Bev Elrod, Mary and daughter Angel, made the Chapel at Hays more delightful to look at," says Pastor Mitch Elrod. "The entrance is spectacular to look at. Thanks to you special ladies. Mary and Angel are frequent visitors to the Chapel and are studying for baptism," says Pastor Mitch.
During this time of where our churches are not meeting, please continue to support the mission of Christ through your tithes and offerings. This be done in many ways.

We have the privilege to invest in God's kingdom even during the worst of times. Thank you for your faithfulness.
Check out this week’s Children’s Ministries posts! "You’ll find new audio stories for kids from a Christian standpoint, a helpful article for parents dealing with strong-willed children and cards, gifts and meals kids can cook to help celebrate Mom on her special day in two weeks on Mother’s Day, Sunday,
May 10," says Sue Carlson (Children's Ministries Director). "This site is updated each week. You will find previous posts archived under their respective topics shown on the right sidebar of the page," says Sue.

“We plan to reopen for in-person classes in the fall,” said Union President Vinita Sauder. “Union is best experienced in person and we look forward to having students back on our campus to take advantage of the fantastic mentoring and supportive community here.”

"College View Academy first grade has been having some company on Zoom," says teacher Suzette Powell. "Wise Waheed from our Bible book has been helping me out. You never know what he will do," says Suzette.
"This month my wife spent three days in AdventHealth Shawnee Mission (non COVID-19)," says Pastor Doug Elsey (New Haven). "My daughter drew this picture as a salute to healthcare workers at AdventHealth and we delivered it today. Lyndsey is a senior at Midland Adventist Academy and will be a student at Union College next year where she will study art. We are so appreciative of everything that our healthcare workers are doing during this crisis and always," says Pastor Doug.
"Every morning, these students from Hays Maranatha Christian School, before starting on their school assignments begin their day with prayer, worship and the flag salute," says teacher Rita Spears. "They want to stick as closely to the school schedule as they can, even while home. I call them every morning at 7:45 to have prayer and
worship with them and answer any questions that they might have and to talk about any concerns they might have. They have very limited access to internet connection so the students are doing assignments with 'learning packets.' Thank you parents for helping your children through this process," says Rita
"We are so blessed to help feed families in Hays, Kansas," says Pastor Mitch Elrod. "High Plains Crisis Center heard about the Chapel and called us. Thanks to Steve and Jen Hagelgantz helped with serving. Several families were blessed," says Pastor Mitch.
"I had a great time last week making a video for our Midland Adventist Academy elementary music classes about our Adventist hymnal," says teacher Steve Hutchison. "If anyone else wants to use these videos to augment their student's home education, they can subscribe to my YouTube channel," says Steve.
"After spending the past few weeks on Zoom, the Great Bend Church with the leadership of the Personal Ministries director, decided to reach out to our members who didn't have internet capabilities," says Doris Reile-Kneller. "One member lives over an hour from the church, so the members each took their families and formed a convoy going to practice social distancing while visiting Chuck. He was overwhelmed at this group who traveled so far just to bring him a moment of cheer singing songs and praying together while standing outdoors enjoying his country setting. A sack of groceries accompanied the visit," says Doris.
"With all the folks affected by this pandemic, homelessness can be even more scary," says Judy Carr. "In March, our Golden Hills church family (Bellevue, Nebraska) brought travel sized personal care products. These donated products were combined with some additional items purchased for the project and placed in a sheer mesh bag. One of the items included was a pocket signs titled 'Hope in Troubled Times.' This one is a favorite of mine since it has some of my favorite Bible promises. A
tag with a message of love was attached to the drawstring. We completed 25 bags for women and 25 for men. We also donated a good supply of bar soap, toothbrushes, shampoo, cream rinse, and lotions that were left over. These were delivered to our local shelter, The Stephen Center. We have encouraged members to contribute to our local food pantry either with food or monetary donations during April and May," says Judy.
The Conference office will begin opening next week with some still working from home. Our "small" Adventist Book Center will be open for food and other items. Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Friday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. 785-478-4726
The offering this Sabbath is for your local church budget. Even while we are not meeting in our church buildings, ministries continue. Please be generous. "Ellen White once noted: “Wherever a church is established, all the members should engage actively in missionary work." Read more...
**If you know something that you think would be of interest to other Kansas-Nebraska Adventists, please let me know. I am trying to keep everyone on the "cutting edge" by sending this out each Friday.

Have a wonderful Sabbath!
