Executive Order Capping Third-Party Delivery Service Fees to Restaurants

Many third-party delivery apps are adding to an ever growing list of challenges facing our local restaurants fighting to stay in business. The City Council recently ratified Mayor Durkan’s Emergency Order, which aims to set a cap on the fees and commissions that can be charged, and supports small businesses in keeping their doors open (Res 31945). We know that healthy businesses can support healthy workers, and I am also so appreciative of the members of Seattle Restaurants United, which have pledged to provide restroom and hand washing access to all third-party delivery drivers.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Information on Resources

This time is different for everyone. We stand with survivors during this critical time.

Social distancing affects survivors who are in vulnerable situations. The Seattle Police Department has noted that domestic violence calls have gone up 21% since Governor Inslee’s stay-at-home order was announced. If you or someone you know is facing domestic or sexual violence at home, there are resources available for you. 24-hour hotlines remain open and continue to provide support and resources. Here are resources you can pursue or share with those in need:

ICYMI: A Message to City in The Stranger

Baby Nadia and I were featured in The Stranger last Friday, when I shared my thoughts on the current COVID-19 situation in Seattle and what it’s like to serve on the City Council as a new mother in these unprecedented times. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my colleagues and essential workers who are keeping Seattle moving. Thank you for all that you do!
