Within a few weeks our world as we know it has been completely disrupted and we keep adapting to the new normal of living in isolation, homeschooling our kids and practicing social distancing. As a company with several international locations, we've always worked with our clients remotely and are thankful that we can continue to do so. In times where it's not an option to produce any studio or location shoots, we are here to support you in creating CGI still or animated content.

In search of the silver lining, we feature a series of four extraordinary car shots using natural, studio and CG lighting to brighten up the darkness. Jan Van Endert ventures to Lapland to chase the Northern lights for Audi, our NYC studio transforms a daytime desert gas station into a darkly cinematic scene for Toyota, Andreas Hempel revs up a Porsche 911 out on the racetrack and Michael Marcheco breaks out an Acura concept from a glass crate.

Stay inside, stay healthy and please stay in touch,

Christoph

Audi - Jan Van Endert

Audi - Jan Van Endert

Catching a glimpse of the aurora borealis is hard to plan for as this highly unpredictable phenomenon requires dark, clear and unobstructed skies to be visible. Audi Magazine sent Jan van Endert to Lapland to chase the Northern lights and the photo crew was lucky enough to be there right in time to witness the amazing spectacle.

Our studio in Stuttgart rendered the Audi e-tron to replace a Q7 stand-in vehicle, and fine tuned this beautiful editorial series in post. Find more shots of this story on our website.

Toyota's 'Nightshade' edition takes the Corolla model to the dark side, with blacked-out exterior accents and all black trim. Our NYC studio took on the challenge of making a black car look great in the dark, producing these atmospheric CGI visuals.

Starting out with a daytime image of a dilapidated gas station, unnecessary pieces are removed, landscape elements are changed and finally night descends on the scene as the car basks in the glow of the CGI neon lights. See the process in the 'Making Of' video on Behance.

Porsche - Andreas Hempel

Porsche - Andreas Hempel

This shot was the teaser for the latest Porsche 911 GT3 R. White with lizard green accents and low to the ground this bad boy calls the race track his home.

Andreas Hempel and his crew were sent to the speedway in Vallelunga, Italy to capture its capabilities and endurance under extreme conditions. All car shots and coloured LED lighting effects were realised in camera. Our Stuttgart studio swapped the curbing from red to green to match the theme, and colour graded the series to complement the lighting effects and enhance the dramatic mood. Head to our website to see the car in action on the track.

Acura - Michael Marcheco

Acura - Michael Marcheco

Paying homage to previous Type-S models, Acura revived the idea of high performance variants, starting out with the TLX Sedan.

Parallel to the video release – in which a glass cage containing the car shatters and breaks into a million pieces – agency photographer Michael Marcheco took stills while using the same lighting setup. He essentially captured this image in a single shot. Further shots by Sean Klingelhoefer added detail to the campaign.

Our NYC studio was in charge of intensifying the mood and finessing the shots in post. See all images with credits on our website.
