Rev. Stephen Kendrick preaching. "Not All Who Wander"

J. R. R. Tolkien wrote in his Lord of the Rings trilogy the interesting words, "Not all who wander are lost."  This is true, but I want to go a step further and add, "Not all who wander are on a journey."  And in these precarious times, we need to figure out what our journey is--as we wander through this life together!

"See" you Sunday,

Stephen

ps--There will be a virtual Coffee Hour immediately after the service, a gathering which many members are enjoying.  Daniel and I will not be able to make it--as we will be immediately "filming" another service to have as a backup for a future Sunday--just in case.  The Standing Committee thought, and it is a very good idea, that we ought to have some fresh services ready to go in an emergency--so we'll be double-doing it this Sunday, and with any luck, you will never ever see that second service!

SOCIAL JUSTICE MEETING THIS SUNDAY @1PM ON ZOOM
Join us for our Social Justice Meeting this Sunday at 1PM on Zoom. We will reconvene to discuss how we can continue our involvement in the various issues that are amplified during the pandemic, including: climate justice, in healthcare, and gun violence. All are welcome! To obtain the link or phone number to call in, feel free to email Tiffany (tiffanynancyc@gmail.com) or Rosemary (rosemarykean510@gmail.com).

Last Sunday, April 26th, we had the opportunity to hear from Laura Wagner, Director of UU Mass Action, Maureo Fernandez y Mora, Clean Water Action Advocate, Rebecca Herst, Director of Sustainable Solutions Lab and Dr. Neena Estrella-Luna on the ties that bind social justice issues tied to the pandemic to climate justice work and what we all can do right now to support the cause. A big thank you to all who attended!

GBIO

On April 30th, Thursday morning, GBIO leaders including members of First Church in Boston, met with Attorney General Maura Healey on Zoom to discuss her commitment to issues that ensure the protection of communities that are the most vulnerable during the pandemic.

Pastoral Notes

Richard Baydin, sadly, has taken a negative turn this week and is currently on a ventilator at the Brigham ICU, and is fighting a number of pressing health concerns, according to his brother, Dr. Jeffery Baydin--who thanks the members of First Church Boston for their continuing concern for Richard's welfare and present health struggle.  He will keep me posted on his brother's condition, and in turn, I with you. And in this regard, we send our prayers and deep concern to all those who are on the front lines trying to keep our elderly safe and secure in the midst of this on-slaught of Covid-19 in our nation's assisted living and rest home facilities--including our partner, Hale Barnard!

For those who have been asking for an address to send letters and notes of condolence to Eileen Brewster's family, please send them to: Maria D. Smith, 2955 White Plains Rd., Apt. 5-C, the Bronx, New York City, NY 10467.

And on the good news front, this week Dr. Robert August's wife Dee formally completed all her work for her Doctorate in Music--and as well, the Augusts celebrated their daughter Melody's birthday in fine fashion driving from friend to friend's house in Newton!
