The 3rd Annual Career Summit is Postponed

Due to the concerns of COVID-19 and with the recommendations of the CDC and executive mandates, the Third Annual FCDA Summit will be going VIRTUAL.  

If you have registered for the Summit previously, you will be receiving a refund as our virtual prices and dates have changed.  The Virtual Summit will be held on Thursday, June 11 and Friday, June 12.

The coronavirus pandemic is making the job of college career services staff a lot harder. As they adapt to working virtually, they're also responsible for helping students navigate a job market quickly upended after months of near-record-low unemployment rates. 

Shelter-in-place orders meant to stem the virus's spread have disrupted several industries — including hospitality, travel and retail — and contributed to a record 17 million unemployment filings in just three weeks. Moreover, 60% of companies reduced their job listings and nearly 25% have closed their postings altogether in the past month, according to new data from Glassdoor.

In this stay-at-home era, we seem to be well aware of the amount of social interaction we are having. For those who are by themselves, that sense of quiet may be a little lonely. However, for those staying home with others, their interaction may be on overdrive, as everyone in the household tries to find a quiet spot in a bustling space. With schools and many workplaces closed, the day-to-day interaction we have been accustomed to with those outside our homes has greatly waned. Even the casual conversations at the grocery store or a restaurant are on hold. This imbalance is very striking to Gen Zers (born 1995–2010). They may have an overdrive of connection at home and little social interaction with their friends, classmates, or others not living with them. So, how is this affecting Generation Z today and how might it shape the way they engage with others as they grow older?
