Broome Catches
Reef Chief Australia with this amazing looking blue bone. Great shot!

Boats

Reef fishing enthusiasts have been picking up mixed catches of saddletail seaperch, blue lined emperor, rankin cod and red emperor in 30m to 40m of water. Fingermark bream and bluebone have been coming from the Roebuck Bay waters together with mulloway and threadfin salmon. Disaster Rock is worth a visit following reports of cobia, queenfish and golden trevally being encountered in the area. Spanish and school mackerel are a chance off Entrance Point and Gantheaume Point.

Shore based

An assortment of predators, including queenfish, school mackerel, golden and small giant trevally, have been turning up at the jetty, especially an hour either side of the change in tide. Threadfin salmon can be targeted at the entrances of the local creeks as well as the adjacent beach areas. Barramundi have been caught on baits in the creeks and the Fitzroy River.
Exmouth Catches

Boats

Small black marlin are being encountered in very good numbers beyond the 100m contour while bigger blue marlin are occasionally being raised and landed out wide. Sailfish are present off the west coast and pods of the majestic pelagics are still sometimes being found in the upper areas of the gulf. Spanish mackerel can be caught on bibbed minnows and rigged garfish trolled between the 15m and 30m depths along the back of the reef line. Reef fishers have been picking up red emperor, Rankin cod and spangled emperor in 30m to 60m of water and goldband snapper in 100m and deeper.

Shore based

Spangled emperor and bluebone are being caught some mornings and evenings at the accesses, which feature reef and rock, between Tantabiddi and Mildura Wreck. Most of the accesses are providing mixed catches of queenfish, golden and small giant trevally. Bigger queenfish are turning up at VLF Bay, Bundegi and Old Bundegi, especially during an incoming tide. Yellowfin whiting catches have slowed along the gulf beaches.
Kalbarri Catches

Boats

Pelagic activity has been fluctuating with Spanish mackerel in the 10kg to 15kg range, as well as the odd fish to 20kg, and yellowfin tuna averaging 10kg being caught some days and absent the next. Reef fishing has been very productive for some fishers with dhufish, baldchin groper and pink snapper being picked up in very good numbers in a range of different depths and areas. Rock lobster enthusiasts have been doing well in 10m to 20m of water northwest and southwest of the river mouth.

Shore based

Avid rock fishers have been catching a variety of species, including spangled emperor, pink snapper and baldchin groper from the local cliffs. Tailor have been caught early morning and around dusk at Red Bluff and Wittecarra Creek. Bigger tailor, fish of about 60cm, have been landed at Oyster Reef and Back Beach. Gold spotted trevally are sometimes being caught at Wittecarra. Estuary cod are being caught in good numbers on small bibbed minnow lures within the Murchison River. Black bream are being picked up around the snags and structure located in the lower and middle reaches of the system.
Geraldton Catches
Paul Smith with a fantastic dhufish he bagged. Awesome catch, mate!

Boats

Reef fishers have been picking up plenty of coral trout, dhufish to 15kg, pink snapper of mixed sizes and baldchin groper out wide. Striped and longtail tuna have been encountered in some areas. Spanish mackerel are occasionally being caught along the back of Pensioners and near the Abrolhos Islands. Squid are in very good numbers within the inshore reefs where garfish, herring and whiting are also being caught.

Shore based

Tailor, mostly in the 35cm to 50cm range, have been caught some mornings and evenings at Headbutts, Flat Rocks, West Bank and Port Gregory. Mulloway in the 12kg to 15kg range, as well as the odd fish to 20kg, have been landed along the coast together with shovelnose and school sharks. Herring have been picked up along the northern and southern beaches as well as at the marina rock walls. Black bream to 35cm are responding well to baits within the Greenough River. A few blue swimmer crabs are being caught at the Batavia Marina and Fishermans Harbour.
Lancelin Catches
Graham Doodson with the elusive mulloway. Travelling around Lancelin area searching for ground to fish that didn't have seaweed really turned out well. Mint fish!

Boats

Most boats have not been going out far while the restrictions have been in place and weather has hampered offshore fishing of late. The few that have been boat fishing are mainly staying close to home pulling pots or fishing within the bay. The lobster potters have been reporting very good numbers of crays on the inshore reefs. Some pink snapper to 7kg have been caught from just outside the bays reef and there are increasing numbers of inshore skippy. Herring have been abundant, with most schools still down the shallow southern end of the bay. The weed banks have some very big snook, up to a metre in length. Some great blue swimmer crabs can be caught drop-netting the nearshore of the bay, they're large and full of meat.

Shore based

The jetty has not seen a lot of fishers, with restrictions on travel to Lancelin from Perth. Those who can fish there are mainly catching herring which are abundant each night under the lights. The bread and butter beach fishing has been sensational with plenty of good size sand whiting and herring making it very easy to land a feed. Tailor have been very active for the time of year, biting right through the day with some fish over 50cm. Flathead have been a common bycatch featuring in a number of tailor bags. The recent new moon produced a string of mulloway and pink snapper catches, we could reasonably expect to see some more hitting the beaches as we approach the full moon early next week and with some rough weather coming in.
Esperance Catches

Boats

Dinghy and small boat fishers have been picking up plenty of squid, herring and sand whiting in the bay. Southern bluefin tuna to 10kg are in very good numbers inshore as well as beyond the islands. Nannygai in the 45cm and 55cm range have been coming from the wider areas. Boats working the ground around the islands have been getting among lots of yellowtail kingfish, Samson fish and queen snapper.

Shore based

The Taylor Street Jetty has been fishing well for herring, squid, garfish and King George whiting while Bandy Creek boat harbour has similar species on offer as well as flathead averaging 45cm. Salmon are present right along the coast with fish between 3kg and 6kg being caught at the local beaches as well those to the east and west of town. Surf fishers have been catching mulloway, gummy shark and bronze whaler shark at Roses, Fourteen Mile and Alexander Bay.
Albany Catches
Teagan Jahn with this nice squid caught on Bremer Bay waters. Great photo!

Boats

Deepwater fishers who ventured wide found schools of big red snapper at the edge of the shelf and blue eye trevalla and hapuka out deeper. The coral lumps located in 60m to 90m of water have been producing fair catches of pink, Queen and red snapper, breaksea cod and dhufish. King George whiting enthusiasts had to work reasonably hard for their catches of 30cm to 45cm within the inshore areas. Squid are still being caught in modest numbers and catches are not expected to increase for another few weeks when it is anticipated that water temperatures will decrease to an optimum level. Herring and juvenile salmon are in very good numbers but sand whiting have become harder to find.

Shore based

Salmon are passing right along the coast, however most of the schools are rarely appearing within casting distance. Spots where the 3kg to 7kg fish were caught on baits and lures this past week included the beach at Salmon Holes, Shelley Beach, Lowlands, Cables, Cheynes Beach and Nanarup. Herring can be sought at just about any location along the coast. The deep gutters at Bluff Creek and Cheynes are holding some nice skippy and tarwhine. Avid rock fishers have been landing pink snapper, blue groper and Samson fish near West Cape Howe when conditions have permitted.
South-west Catches

Boats

Reef fishing enthusiasts have been picking up reasonable catches of dhufish, breaksea cod and queen snapper in 20m to 40m of water off Hamelin Bay, Cowaramup Bay and Canal Rocks. Yellowtail kingfish have been encountered off the tip of Cape Naturaliste together with Samson fish and amberjack. Pink snapper are worth a try early morning and on dusk along the Four Mile and Eight Mile reef systems. King George whiting and squid catches are increasing in waters off Quindalup.

Shore based

Surf fishers have been catching salmon along the west coast beaches with Hamelin Bay, Injidup, Mitchells and Smiths Beach among the spots where the 3kg to 7kg fish were caught this past week. Some of the Geographe Bay beaches, including Bunker Bay and Eagle Bay, have sometimes been fishing equally as well for salmon as the west coast locations. Herring are in very good numbers along both sides of the cape while skippy and tarwhine can be found at spots that feature reef or rock. The deep gutters formed along the west coast, following the recent big swells, would be worth trying for jumbo tailor, mulloway, gummy and whaler shark.
Perth Catches
Recfishwest's very own Aaron Moses with this nice salmon caught North of the River. Great catch, mate!

Boats

There have been some very good catches of reef fish coming from a range of depths in waters off Fremantle as well as out from Rockingham and Hillarys and around Two Rocks. Starting to the north, Two Rocks and Yanchep fishers have been picking up dhufish to 10kg and pink snapper of smaller sizes in depths leading up to 12m of water. Baldchin groper are being caught in good numbers in slightly deeper waters in both areas while the 20m to 40m depths seem to be good for baldies off Hillarys. Schools of pink snapper have been encountered in 20m to 25m of water northwest and south of Rottnest Island. Dhufish have mostly been found in 30m to 50m near Rottnest and out from Rockingham. There are still schools of small southern bluefin tuna west of Five Fathom Bank. Salmon and other predators are sometimes preying upon big schools of baitfish hanging near Garden Island, Carnac Island and Stragglers. Squid catches are increasing along the seagrass meadows off Fremantle and within Cockburn Sound.

Shore based

Juvenile salmon appeared in good numbers along Challenger Beach on Sunday morning and there have been reports of the 1kg to 2kg fish caught at Leighton Beach, Grant Street Reef and Trigg Point during the past few weeks. Tailor have been turning up some mornings and evenings along the metropolitan beaches. There are good numbers of herring right along the coast with the northern and southern rock walls and jetties producing the bigger numbers of the popular bread and butter species. Squid can be targeted at South Mole and some of the other Fremantle rock walls. Mulloway are still a chance in the lower reaches of the Swan River.
