OIP to Move Forward With Fall 2020 Study Abroad Programs
The Office of International Programs is currently planning to move forward with its scheduled programs for the Fall 2020 semester. OIP said it will make final decisions in mid-May as to whether programs that begin in June and July will run as planned, and by mid-June, it will evaluate whether programs that begin in September and October will continue. If a program is canceled prior to its start date, students in that program will be given the option to register for a different program for the semester or withdraw from the abroad pool without penalty. They will not be able to switch into a program for the spring of 2021, but they will be able to request a spot on the waitlist for a spring program.

New UGBC President Christian Guma, CSOM ’21, and Vice President Kevork Atinizian, CSOM ’22, took office Wednesday—replacing Michael Osaghae, MCAS ’20, and Tiffany Brooks, MCAS ’21. In a video posted to UGBC’s social media, Osaghae and Brooks announced that they will be joining Guma and Atinizian in donating $5,000 to the Eagles for Eagles fund on behalf of UGBC. The money comes from unspent funds left in the UGBC budget.
High School Teammates Lewis Bond and Dante Reynolds Commit to BC
Three-star recruits Lewis Bond and Dante Reynolds, both from Kenwood Academy near Chicago, have joined head football coach Jeff Hafley’s 2021 recruiting class. Bond rushed for 681 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Reynolds caught 15 passes for 313 yards and five touchdowns during his junior season, and his high-school performance earned him a national ranking of No. 225 out of all wide receivers in his class. Both players turned down offers from several Division I programs.
UGBC Fails To Amend Constitution
The UGBC Senate was unable to vote on an amendment to its constitution Tuesday night when it failed to pass a motion to extend its meeting past the one-hour limit. The alterations to the constitution included changes to the structure of the Senate. The senators have asked the associate director for student programming in the Office of Student Involvement to amend the constitution for them without a vote. The Senate’s usual spring elections have been pushed back to Sept. 15 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and waiting until after the election would have delayed any changes to the body’s structure for another full year.

This Week in BC History

This week in 1969, The Heights reported that the University would be announcing plans to move female students from South Street into dorms on Upper Campus. When then-Executive Vice President Rev. F.X. Shea suggested the possibility of women moving into Williams, Welch, and Roncalli, the UGBC Housing Committee objected, saying that those were “the three best dorms on the campus.”
