As you will see, most of the events listed on our calendar have been impacted by precautions wisely taken by the event organisers to limit the spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus). The decisions are in response to measures implemented across the City under the guidance of Ottawa Public Health with regards to COVID-19.

Monday, May 4, 2020 - ONTARIO GARDEN CENTRES TO REOPEN


The Ontario government says it is allowing certain business and workplaces to reopen on May 4, as long as they comply with strict public health measures set out during the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, May 4 at 12:01 a.m., if they are following the proper health and safety guidelines, the province said garden centres and nurseries, lawn care and landscaping, and select other businesses will be permitted to begin operations:

  • Garden centres and nurseries with curbside pick-up and delivery only.
  • Lawn care and landscaping.

The Canadian Tulip Festival

The Canadian Tulip Festival will be offering ALL our performances, programming, and public participation ONLINE. We will continue to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands with all Canadians and the world through our website, our social media, and on our new YouTube Channel.

Commisionners Park is closed. The City of Ottawa, the NCC and the Canadian Tulip Festival ask everyone to Please Stay HOME and stay SAFE! There will be no staff, tour guides, volunteers, facilities, attractions or concerts on-site at Commissioners Park / Dow’s Lake this year. 

24-hour Bloom Cam for Cherry Blossoms at High Park, Toronto
A beloved spring tradition, every year thousands of people visit High Park to catch a glimpse of the delicate pink flowers on Toronto’s Sakura (cherry blossom) trees. This year, as a part of the City’s COVID-19 response, High Park is closed for public safety reasons
, during peak bloom. To ensure no one misses the annual bloom, the City is bringing spring indoors. Check in on the continuous livestream of the High Park grove 24 hours a day and watch the progress of the cherry tree blooms until peak bloom ends, as well as other interesting virtual events.

The The Old Farmer's Almanac produces two podcasts every month and one weekly podcast.

Farmer’s Calendar Podcast. These essays come from The Old Farmer’s Almanac annual publication. They are recorded by Julia Shipley, the author and poet. She draws from her life raising animals and vegetables on a small farm in Northern Vermont. This month: Farmer's Calendar for May 2020.

The monthly Garden Musings Podcast were written by George and Becky Lohmiller. Early recordings in the series were read by Almanac group publisher John Pierce, as well as Almanac copy editor Jack Burnett. Almanac editor Heidi Stonehill became the narrator in 2012.
