1. Public letter on Guaranteed Basic Income

ELCIC National Bishop Susan Johnson along with 41 other Lutheran and Anglican bishops wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance calling for guaranteed basic income for all. Read the full letter when you click here.


2. Video message to the church from ELCIC National Bishop Susan Johnson

In a message video taped from her living room, ELCIC National Bishop Susan Johnson shares her thanks to rostered leaders, congressional members, and to all who are finding creative ways of coming together during these challenging times of COVID-19. One Family in Mission - a Pentecost online event for Sunday, May 31
On Pentecost Sunday, May 31, join with Lutherans and Anglicans across Canada online to worship, pray and sing together with the Holy Spirit and Giver of Life. We invite you to record yourself, or you and those you are isolating with, saying the Lord's Prayer in the language of your choice. We will be collecting videos nationwide and including them in the May 31 video event. For more information on how to record and upload a video prayer, please click here. Videos are due by May 15.

4. Prayers for the Holy Land

On the 24th of each month, the ELCIC joins with people around the world in praying for peace in the Holy Land. For more information please click here.

On the seventh Sunday in Easter, the ELCIC lifts up Jerusalem and the Holy Land. This year, Jerusalem and the Holy Land Sunday is on May 24. A bulletin resource with reflections will be available shortly.

6. World Council of Churches Updates

"One Human Family" - Annual Review 2019 Now Available
The World Council of Churches (WCC) Annual Review 2019 is now available for download online. The annual review records many of the WCC's activities undertaken in 2019 and continuing into 2020. To read the news article on this and to download the annual review, please click here.

WCC Youth Song Competition
The WCC's 11th Assembly planning team invites young people between the ages of 18 and 35 who attend a WCC member church to enter a songwriting competition. Be a part of the ecumenical movement through music. For more information, click here. Deadline is June 30, 2020.

WCC Youth Engagement - A book with young people's voices
The WCC's Youth Engagement plans to publish a book with young people's voices for the first time in 25 years. Young people ages 18-30 are invited to submit articles on the current situation of young people today: challenges, transformational potentials, vision of the ecumenical movement. First round of selection submissions should be an abstract of 350 words maximum by May 15, 2020. For more information, please click here.



7. The Lutheran World Federation: Calling for an economy of life

Some 25 participants were brought together by online conferences held in April of this year to reflect on the socio-economic-ecological impacts of the COVID-19 crisis and how it offers the world an opportunity to rethink and reshape financial and economic systems in order to invest in the health and well-being of communities and the planet. The initiative was co-sponsored by The Lutheran World Federation, Council for World Mission, the World Communion of Reformed Churches, and the World Council of Churches.
