LEVERETT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Friday Afternoon Post
May 1, 2020

Dear LES Families and Friends,

To kickoff the month of May, the LES staff cordially invites everyone to participate in the LES Wave Parade!   We are bringing smiles, waves, and hope to the entire Leverett community!

                                        Date: Wednesday, May 6, 2020
                                        Start Location: Leverett Elementary School
Start Time: 1:30PM (approx 1.5 hours)
                                        End Location: Leverett Elementary School

Details
LES staff members will be participating in a car parade that begins at Leverett Elementary School at 1:30PM.  The official route appears below.  We encourage LES students to make posters in advance and to wave hello as the parade passes by residences.  We also encourage everyone to wear masks.  The Leverett Board of Health encourages kids to get involved in this town-wide effort through making yard signs to promote mask wearing.  Most importantly, we want to bring cheer to our entire community.

If your family does not live on the route, you are welcome to park your car at LES, across the street from town hall or at Leverett Crafts & Arts to view the parade.  Since you will need to stay in your car and honor social distancing, please allow enough space between parked cars.  If you are viewing the parade from a parking lot, we ask that everyone stays in their car.   This will ensure everyone’s health and physical safety.

If your family views the parade from a residence, students need to stand and wave from a safe distance from the road, and be accompanied by an adult.

We plan to create a virtual Wave Parade after the event, so please take photos of posters, cars, smiling faces and send to Deb Fritz at fritz@leverettschool.org.  Note: The rain date for the event is Wednesday, May 13th.

A special thank you to the Leverett Police Department, Leverett Fire Dept, Leverett Board of Health, the Kuzmeskus bus company, and Village Neighbors for supporting this community event.

We are super excited about seeing everyone next week!

If you have not yet seen Amanda Gorman, the first Youth Poet Laureate’s words of hope amid the pandemic, you are in for something very special...

A Message from the Amherst Survival Center

The Amherst Survival Center is offering FREE To-Go Meals and pre-assembled boxes of food for Leverett families.

We are offering daily To-Go Meals (along with snacks), Fresh Produce, and Bread. Distributed outside. This is pre-packaged and given out one per person. No registration and no residency requirements.

Our Food Pantry is open. New shoppers are welcome and registration is quick and easy. The Food Pantry is distributing pre-assembled boxes of food in the large main dining area, which should be about 7 days worth of food for every member of the family. They’ll receive canned goods, grains, fresh milk, eggs, cheese, meat and produce as well as toiletries/hygiene products and pet food. See Food Pantry for more information on how to register, and for options about how to get groceries (including some options for delivery or alternate pick up).
If families are sick (with anything), they can call the Center at (413) 549-3968 or email pantry@amherstsurvival.org, and we will make arrangements to get food to them in the parking lot or to have someone else pick it up.
A note about safety during preparation: We have extensive sanitation processes in place. All staff and volunteers wash their hands upon entry of the building and wear face coverings throughout their shift. Safe food handling practices are being strictly adhered to. The above changes in our operations help ensure all guests and volunteers maintain the minimum 6 feet of separation while working and while accessing food.
The Amherst Survival Center is located at: 138 Sunderland Road, North Amherst.  Hours of Operation: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11am-3pm. We can be reached by calling (413)549-3968 or emailing info@amherstsurvival.org
