FROM THE DESK OF THE PRO

MAY 2020

It is great to see that our Clubs are giving their members challenges every week to keep them going and keeping them motivated with their photography.  This image was created by Bill Zurich, who is a member of George CC and PPS and this Challenge was from George CC which was “Toilet Rolls”  Thanks Bill for giving us a good laugh to start off our May Newsletter.
Many of our clubs are doing this and it is certainly keeping us all busy – PLEASE CONTINUE TO DO SO under the difficult circumstances facing us all during the LOCKDOWN.

MONTHLY COMPETITIONS

Once again some stunning images entered into our Club Winners and our Web Site Competition.  CONGRATS to Dries Fourie from Vereeniging Photographic Society “Flight of the Black Eagle” in winning the Senior Image of the month.  All the winners and scores are on our web site www.pssa.co.za. please continue to support these competitions every month, the judges always comment back to me saying how much they enjoyed the challenges of judging them.  Just a small friendly reminder re these competitions, only members of PSSA can enter the web site competition and also if your image wins at your club in the Senior or Junior section, please do not enter it into the web site competition in the same month.
Two more months to go with these competitions for this calendar year and all the winners of each section over this past year will be judged for the Overall Winners of the Senior, Junior and Web site for the year July 2019 to June 2020. Results will be announced along with the PSSA Annual Competitions.

PSSA ANNUAL COMPETITIONS

Also information from Anne – Chairperson of the Competitions Division - The annual PSSA competitions will close on Saturday 27 June 2020, these are
  1. PSSA National Inter-Club Competition
  2. PSSA National Website Competition
  3. PSSA National Magazine/Newsletter Competition
The brochures will be available shortly but basically there are no changes to the rules, which will be the same as previous years so clubs can start their preparation for selection of the images and magazine/newsletter that they are going to submit.
It would be great to see more than the 36 that enter each year so let us break a record in this “lockdown” year. Good Luck all and we look forward to all the entries.

HONOURS APPLICATIONS
Message from Jill – Chairperson of this Division – Closing date for the next round of Honours applications is 1 July and Photovault is now open for applications.   It is possible that the date of judging will need to be changed due to the lockdown but the important point is that the closing date will still be 1 July.   Please also make sure that your subs are up to date before applying. FINAL WORDS
To finish off this month’s Newsletter, I would like to share with you some wonderful facts from the book “ABSOLUTELY AWESOME SOUTH AFRICA” by Derryn Campbell, keeping us all positive thru this difficult time for us all.   This book will leave you flabbergasted, rolling on your belly laughing and scratching your head in disbelief as it captures the soul of this magnificent country of ours.

In the book there is a section on the movie “The Lion King”, which has been the biggest box office hit ever.   If we take lessons from The Lion King such as HAKUNA MATATA – “there are no worries and in short teaches us not to sweat the small stuff, make the most of every day”.   LEARN FROM THE PAST – “Although we cannot run from the past, we can learn from it and allow it to help us move forward” WE CAN ACCOMPLISH GREAT THINGS -  “realise that anything is possible”  UNLIKELY ACQUAINTANCES MAKE THE GREATEST FRIENDS – “it is what is on the inside that counts and that the greatest friendships come in the most unexpected forms” TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WISH TO BE TREATED – “each person is significant and adds value to the work in unique ways

Keep meeting all your Clubs’ Challenges, KEEP SAFE AND WELL and let us all together keep positive for our people and our Country.

Till next month.

EVELYN
