Teachers Spotlight

Sr. Mehnaz | During Second Year of Teaching

The scene: The KG classroom, the first week of school, and me gravitating between feeling thankful to be there as a teacher and terrified of not messing it up in the twenty-one kindergartners' chatter. I flit between tables. I turn, and what do I see? A student doing a handstand in the middle of the room. A handstand!

Students stare: first at him, then at me, wondering how I'll respond. That day, I chose to laugh. As students join in, all is right in the world of our classroom.

The lesson: Given a "teachable moment," respond with love first, guidance second.

Al-Rahmah Ansar Program

Every year our students, their families, and teachers raise funds to support the Al-Rahmah Ansar Program for orphan sponsorship.

The Al-Rahmah Ansar program is run in collaboration with Helping Hand, a non-profit organization that has been working with us for the past several years.

Alhamdulillah, through your generous donations, we were able to sponsor the education of 21 children last year and would like to keep the same pledge this year. The school closure has affected our fundraising ability this year so we are sending this special appeal to you.

Many parents have already donated and we raised $5,818 this year, Alhamdulillah.

We are only $2000 short to achieve our goal to sponsor 21 children this year.

Please, help us achieve the remainder of our goal and sponsor the education of these children. Your donation will continue to benefit them and their families.

May Allah swt continue to shower his blessings of mercy and bounties on you and your family. Ameen

Health Corner

Sr. Hina Butt
In our new Covid-19 reality, the best thing about working from home is you’ve gained time you normally spend heading to and from school. With all the extra time in hand we would like to encourage staying active and spending more time with family.

Make sure you try all three levels, be safe and happy exercising!!!

COVID-19 Ramadan Tips for Parents

  1. Before eating iftar make certain to recite the du`a for breaking the fast together. Start with dates and water! That was the sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ.
  2. After eating dinner, be sure to remind your child to thank the parent who cooked the food. The person who feeds a fasting person gets the reward also of the person who fasted.
  3. Try to pray salah together as a family. This will demonstrate to the children the importance of salah. Many of us are locked in our houses with the kids. There is no excuse. Fajr, Maghrib and Isha is a good start. Remember, praying in jama`ah is twenty-seven (27) times more in reward, and in Ramadan it is multiplied 70 to 700 times more
  4. This year many of us will be having Tarweeh at home. Make goals of praying eight (8) to twenty (20) raka`ah. You can have your sons, if old enough, to help lead a few of the raka`ah.
