In keeping with Federal and State guidelines for COVID-19 protection the Corsica River Yacht Club is closed until further notice.  All club events are cancelled through 30 June.

Mike Hollis

All scheduled events through 30 June remain canceled.  We will of course notify you if the club should reopen sooner.  The Board of Directors has been teleconferencing regularily and “wargaming” what a reopen club will look like, how will a food event be run, and where can we save money.  Our first event will hopefully be the Log Canoe Regatta on 11/12 July.   YMCA camps are doubtful for June and tentative for July and August.  Of course, all this is dependant on the state, county and club meeting incremental levels of re-opening critera which are under development as of this writing.  I currently have concerns:
  1. Whether we are setting ourselves up for a 2nd wave of COVID should things re-open prematurely.
  2. Even if we have the lead time to prepare and host sailing events will people attend?  Additionally, food events present a whole different category of issues.

On a related note; Our membership renewal numbers are significantly down (almost 40%) this year.  While the club can meet its non-discretionary bills we do not have much wiggle room.  If you haven’t paid your 2020 dues please do so.  For those of you who have paid your dues -  thank you – You’re not getting a lot of return on your dues this year but you will help us meet our obligations so we can exist next year.

I look forward to the reopening of the state, county and yacht club in the near future so that we might all enjoy the camradere and fellowship associated with CRYC.  Thanks for your patience and understanding.

As always and now more than ever – be safe, be clean, be home.

Regards,
Mike Hollis, Commodore

Late fees for dues are waived thru 31 May.

Kayak rack renewals ($25) must be paid for by 31 May in order to avoid removal and reissuing to a member on the wait list.

Planning is complete on the new schoolhouse however we are delaying our order until we review current club income.  We are still planning for a summer arrival (date TBD).  This asset will greatly increase capabilities for both the schoolhouse and race management.  The cost is in the $7,000 range and we are currently seeking donations, large or small, to help defray the club expenditure

Spring rains continue to create boggy conditions in the lower elevations.  Please do not drive past an imaginary line running from the pavilion to the school shed because it is boggy this time of year.  Members will be held responsible for repairing any damage to the grounds.
