Dear Lenart Family,

Wow! We are already into the month of May!  Happy May Day!  Did you know that May Day has many different meanings for diverse cultures and countries?  In some countries May Day is recognized as a day to celebrate workers and labor rights.  In other cultures, May Day is a celebration of Spring.  Let's take this moment to celebrate both! Thank you parents and guardians for all that you are doing for your children at home.  We know that you are doing your best in this unfamiliar territory of remote learning.  So take a moment and take a deep breath of this Spring air as we all show each other some grace during this time.

CPS emailed parents and staff information about 4th quarter grading yesterday evening.  CPS is recommending the Board of Education approve a modification to the  promotion policy that will advance all elementary students to the next grade level in the fall.  Please click here for an overview of CPS grading, promotion, and graduation requirements.

What does this mean for our students?
  • Students will receive a letter grade if their letter grade is the same or better than the 3rd quarter grade.
  • Students who participate in digital instruction but receives a lower 4th quarter grade than 3rd quarter will receive a PASS for 4th quarter.
  • Students who has no access to digital instruction but completes printed work packets will receive a PASS for 4th quarter.
  • Students who has no access to digital instruction, no completed print work packet, and no engagement with teachers will receive an INCOMPLETE for 4th quarter.
  • Students who has access to digital instruction but receives an F in 4th quarter will receive an INCOMPLETE for 4th quarter.
I know that many parents still have other questions regarding the end of the year.  I will share this information with you once we receive more information from CPS.  As we always say, you know your child best and what your family needs most during this time... so let's continue to work together to support our students.

Next week, May 4th through 8th, is Teacher Appreciation Week!  Find a creative way to give your teachers a special shout out.  Click here for CPS digital media toolkit which has graphics, avatars, and other ideas on how to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week.

With kindness, grace, patience, and each other, we will get through this together.  Enjoy your weekend!
