Cape Breton University (CBU) offers an employment wage subsidy program funded by Post Secondary Accessibility Services (PSAS) and facilitated by CBU’s Jennifer Keeping Centre. This is a participant-focused program, dedicated to providing inclusive hiring through Federal and Provincial wage subsidies to employers in Cape Breton.
Through the program CBU provides:
- A wage subsidy covering $9.50/hour of the student’s wage of $14.50/hour
- Training and mentoring for participants
- Advice and monitoring throughout the program to ensure participants and employers are receiving the best possible experience
Employer Requirements:
- Provide a 35-hour work week beginning no earlier than May 1, 2020 and no later than August 21, 2020
- Provide $14.50/hour wage to their new hire with CBU covering $9.50/hour of that wage and the employer covering the remaining $5.00/hour
Participating Student Requirements:
- A student rom Nova Scotia
- Must be returning for studies in the Fall of 2020
- Registered with CBU’s Jennifer Keeping Centre
- Registered with NS Post Secondary Accessibility Services (PSAS) as a student with a documented disability
- Must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
