1st May 2020

In these uncertain and trying times the aim of the E-Newsletter is to keep people in the parish informed and in contact with other people in the parish. We make no apology for repeating information from previous E-Newsletters. Additional information is included this week.

As the 75th Anniversary of VE day approaches what memories of life in Myddle have passed down through the generations in your family? You may have stories, contemporary photographs or even photographs of artefacts from the time that you would like to share with the community in a special VE-day edition of this newsletter.
Children may like to make drawings of how they imagine VE-day might have been celebrated in the parish in 1945.  There are also flags to be coloured here
https://www.primarytreasurechest.com/teachingresources/category/world-war-two-teaching-resources.html
and a home schooling resource on VE Day with some interesting activities here
https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/remembrance/teaching-remembrance
while this video highlights the experiences of wartime children in air raid shelters .. a sort of underground lockdown!
https://www.iwm.org.uk/learning/adventures-in-history-the-worlds-best-den
These resources might give you and your children other ideas for colourful displays at home to brighten the Parish for the Anniversary as well as for contributions for the special VE-day edition of this e-newsletter.
Send contributions for the special edition of the e-newsletter either to kayleigh@specialairconservices.co.uk or greg_miller@btinternet.com
We will need your contributions by Tuesday 5th May so that the special edition can be issued on VE Day 8th May.

Pastoral Letter May 2020
Normally May is a month of celebrations with May Day festivities held in many areas, traditionally marking the first day of summer, but this year of course  the Bank holiday is on the  8th May when we celebrate VE Day, remembering the beginning of the end of the Second World War, thinking about all those courageous people who fought for our country.
Whatever the weather, the ‘merry month of May’ is here, evenings and mornings are lighter and by and large, it is warmer. Lively birdsong is like a natural sacred choir and plants and wildflowers, (including weeds) are blooming, filling our brown gardens with vibrant colour. Yet this year it’s easy to let it all seem a little muted, given the circumstances we find ourselves in.
In these difficult and frustrating times, I am sure by now you have found your own ways of coping; exercising, reading, watching films or maybe just being still. The beginning of Psalm 46 tells us that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Later in the psalm he goes on to say, “Be still and know that I am God.”
We have an ideal time now while we can’t rush around manically trying to get things done, to stop and be still and remind ourselves that God is indeed our refuge and strength in times of trouble.
This may not be easy if you have a young family, but we have some Messy Church activity ideas you may like to try together. Just email jothevicarswife@hotmail.com and Jo will send them to you.
Adam.
