The Scriptures hold a coded love-letter that God wrote to the Jewish people over 1,300 years before Jesus’ death.
Monday, May 25
Hey friends, this Sunday, churches around the world celebrate Pentecost, the day where the Holy Spirit birthed the Church with 3,000 believers (Acts 2).
Though many know Pentecost as the day the Holy Spirit filled His Church, you may not know that for 1,300 years before that, it was the Jewish holiday Shavuot. Shavuot falls on the fiftieth day after the Passover, hence the Greek word “Pentecost” or “fifty.”
According to Leviticus 23:15–17 and Exodus 34:22, Shavuot was an agricultural holiday, marking the reaping of the first fruits of the wheat harvest. Just as many Biblical feasts were prophetic foreshadows of things to come, the gathering of the first wheat harvest hints of the first harvest of the first followers of Jesus (the 3,000 added on that day).Read more about this rich prophetic history in our lead article.
The Scriptures hold a coded love-letter that God wrote to the Jewish people over 1,300 years before Jesus’ death so that they might more easily recognize their Messiah through two annual feasts: Early and Latter Firstfruits (AKA Pentecost).
