Dear HERO Families,

According to the latest decision by Governor Walz, all Minnesota schools will remain closed and will continue to do on-line schooling for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

We are beginning our sixth week of distance learning at HERO. I received a very encouraging note from one of the parents this week.  They said, “HERO hasn’t missed a beat.  You and your teachers are delivering the same quality of education, or even above their usual high standards.  So THANK YOU to you and all of your teachers for all of your hard work now and throughout the year!  We really appreciate it!”.  I want to thank the HERO parents and students for being flexible and working with the teachers. This has been a community effort between the teachers, students and parents, all working together for one common goal, to educate our children at home. We continue to count our blessings for the opportunity we have to instruct our own children.

MAY 11th & 12th
HERO is planning a drive through parade for our families on May 11 and 12.  The HERO teachers will form a long line and the HERO families can do a slow drive through the teachers’ line.  The parents can drive their car with the windows down so their students can say their goodbyes to their teachers. We will let you know more details in the next couple weeks.  There will be tables set up outside or in the gym for students to pick up art pieces, wood shop projects, classroom supplies, etc.  The annual HERO yearbook will be ready for pick up on May 11 and 12.  If you have not pre-ordered your yearbook for $25, and you would still like one, please email Jayne Wahlberg this week.  We have already pre-sold half of the yearbooks. If we have any yearbooks still available on May 11 and 12, they will be sold for $28.

REGISTERING for FALL 2020
HERO Class Schedule and Registration for 2020-2021 school year will be posted on the HERO website on May 1st. In order to register for the 2020-2021 school year, HERO member accounts must be paid in full.  Registering for existing HERO members will start May 1. Beginning May 15th, HERO registration opens to all families that are interested.

GIBSON TESTING
HERO is offering the Gibson test, administered by Learning RX on-line. The Gibson test measures the performance of the following key cognitive skills: short-term and long-term memory processing, speed auditory processing, visual processing, logic and reasoning, and word attack skills. The report you receive will give a detailed look at individual cognitive strengths and weakness in each of these areas. The test also measures IQ. The reason to take the Gibson exam is to identify weak skills so that your student can be strengthened through brain training. Cost of the exam is typically $100. HERO members are being offered the test for $25 (must be age 5 and up, adults welcome).
The registration link is:  https://forms.gle/5v8NzxTnYkaLEXoF9

Once you have completed the on-line registration, please send payment of $25 to HERO. When HERO confirms payment, Learning Rx will assign you a Gibson test and email the log in information (to each individual family).  This will be done manually at Learning RX, so the link will be emailed out 1-2 days after confirmation of registration and payment. The deadline for both registering for the assessment, and completing the online assessment is May 31, 2020.
