The last weeks were challenging for all of us. The pandemic showed our vulnerability, but also our strength and collective responsibility. I’d like to start this newsletter by expressing my deepest thanks to our community, which has engaged in fighting COVID-19. The speed and the variety of different forms of engagement have been truly heroic. We were impressed by how you responded to our „Make connections” initiative. 30% of all the European submitted asks and offers came from our regions. Now we’re working on the “matches”.
We partnered with #EUvsVirus hackathon, where our dedicated experts (Tamas, Dora, Tamas, Daniela, Adi, Yoni, but also our Partners and EIT Health Hubs – Romania, Greece and Italy, you did a great, great job!) mentored the innovators to hack the virus together. Our Israeli team organised a series of inspiring webinars for the community „Hack the virus” and engaged approx. 500 participants. We supported an online start-up journey with Startup Safari Budapest, Microsoft and Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO) and showcased some of the best talents from our community and their response to COVID-19. Together with our Partners (Filippa Fixe from Glintt, Gabriela Sodar from Semmelweis University, Dora Marosvolgyi and Tamas Bekasi from EIT Health InnoStars), we shared our insights regarding how the key players of the European healthcare innovation ecosystem can contribute to the fight against COVID-19.
And last but not least, I’d also like to congratulate the Polish team which has developed the Ultrasound Lung Simulator. The project was recognised in the EIT Health Rapid Response Call and will be awarded a grant with 13 other best innovation projects in 2020. EIT Health will pledge €6 millions towards all of them.
Thank you all for every small and big step that you’ve taken.
Stay safe, all the best,
Balazs Furjes | Managing Director EIT Health InnoStars
