Threshing-board at Yammouneh from American Colony (Jerusalem) Collection
~1900-1920
As we are all scattered across the earth nowadays, I talk to friends in different parts of the world about the state of things. There is shared frustration because we can't plan the next steps or lay the stones of the walkway to the other side. "Let the global dust settle" is all I know how to say when I'm asked what I'm going to do as Lebanon slips further into chaos. Strangely, I've felt more anxious during the gradual end of lockdown than I have felt throughout the entire period we were forced indoors. Virus worries begin to be overshadowed by the other battle we are walking out into - the same one that has loomed over us for months - as we grasp at straws where there is no shrubbery.

What should be abandoned? What will survive this and what methods
(new or old) must be reinvigorated so we can avoid getting caught in this tornado again?

I use Bacchus as an anchor to keep me focused on something but there are days when it feels futile. I don't mean to depress anyone but I do want you all to know that, although I've tried to consistently pump out content, the question what is this all for? does creep up on me and it is paralyzing.

To those who have expressed appreciation for what I'm working on while our mess gets messier, thank you. All I can promise at this point is that I will keep trying and maybe it'll help you do the same.

Love & olives,
Farrah

Ziad Abi Chaker's bins of recycled bottles go to GGRIL, supporting the last glass-blowers in South Lebanon's Sarafand.

If you drink Domaine Wardy bottles, you can also drop them off in Zahle or Tahweeta or call for pickup and you'll receive a small refund!
