Abundance

<<First Name>>,

"I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10).

I think this is one of those times where Jesus isn't alluding to something super specific as much as giving his hearers something to consider, to discuss, to ponder and even be haunted by while out for a walk. Maybe his listeners got together later in "breakout sessions" and asked each other "what do you think makes life abundant? What is life to the full?" Maybe as more and more folks shared their "take" on the question, a collective vision—an abundant vision—began to emerge, containing all the nuances and particularities of each person's hopes, needs, joys, and sense of "fullness" and "abundance."

How about you? What is this "life" that Jesus wishes for others? For whom does he wish this? What does it mean to experience life abundantly?

How are you experiencing "abundant" life?

-Matt

Text of the Week

John 10:7-10 (NRSV):
7 So again Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

Two Online Courses

"Resisting Empire: An Online Study of Poverty, Empire and the Book of Revelation in the Time of Covid19." Led by Wess Daniels, "Forever Friend of Camas Friends." This free 6-week online course will look at the Book of Revelation from a Liberation Theology perspective, using the book, “Resisting Empire: The Book of Revelation as Resistance” as the backdrop. We will take time to understand not only questions about "end times," and what it means to resist the "religion of empire" in this moment, but we will work to read the bible "off center," with the perspective of the victims of empire at the heart of our interpretation. We will meet weekly starting on Wednesday, April 29, 1pm PST. Sign up for more details at: https://shrtm.nu/resistempire

"Radical Spirituality: the Early History of the Quakers." This free online course began Monday, April 27th. The instructor is Ben Pink Dandelion and is offered through Woodbrooke, the Quaker Study Centre in Birmingham, England. Through this course, we will be finding out about what lies at the heart of Quaker beginnings, who its main characters were, and how in a few weeks during the summer of 1652 the Quaker movement was formed in the north of England. The course will run for five weeks. To register, go to Radical Spirituality: the Early History of the Quakers

Also, our Food Pantry is open Thursday from 10am to 1pm and Sunday from 12:30 to 3pm. Know anyone who would benefit? We can also deliver pantry items.

Earth Care Tip of the Week

Use homemade weed killer: 1 gallon white vinegar, 1 cup salt, 1 tablespoon dish soap. Mix and put in spray bottle. Be sure it doesn't drift onto plants you want to keep.
