Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome back! I have loads of exciting news, some authors you may like, and free stuff to share!

Big News:

  • The Other Magic was honored as a runner-up in the prestigious Independent Publishers Book Awards (IPPYs), as well as being named a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award winner.

The Other Magic Updates:
  • Unfortunately, Podium has not revealed a date for pre-order availability on the audio, but this will undoubtedly be available by my next newsletter, which will go out the week before the official release. Those of you who like or follow my Facebook author page will see it posted the moment it's available.
  • Jeff Brown finished a beautiful illustration for the upcoming promotional book trailer. We'll be cutting it close to get the trailer completed ahead of the release, but fingers are crossed.
  • Jeff's illustration may also be used as the official cover for the hardback edition tentatively slated for release this fall.

The Other Way (Book Two) Updates:
  • The Other Way is slated to run a similar length to The Other Magic, and I am excited to have reached the halfway mark with this first draft. I also decided to start showing my progress with charts and graphs, because, let's face it, they look way cooler. NOTE: Each character does not receive equal page time so don't worry over the math that brings me to say that I'm halfway there. You'll have to just trust me on this.

I stole the above image from my website, hope I don't mind.

Currently Reading/Listening to:
The Raveling: The Complete Saga, by Alec Hutson. Recently released as a box set, this saga provides fifty hours of audio so depending on how many times I have to mow my lawn this month, I may still be listening to this by the end of June. I just started it a few days ago, and while I had never read Alec Hutson's work, I'm enjoying the initial set-up. The first book in this series is The Crimson Queen.
Help for Aspiring Authors:
Some of the movie references may be a little dated, but this article does a great job of breaking down an interesting philosophy of plot structure. This view surmises that all Hollywood stories are built upon only three basic components: character, desire, and conflict. While this discusses movie scripts, it's worth applying to any story plotting. The author of this article refers to a six-stage process embedded within the very well-known, three-act plot structure. Here's the article, The Five Key Turning Points Of All Successful Movie Scripts.
