Water Europe releases NEW Position Paper
'A Water Smart Society for a successful post COVID-19 recovery plan'
Water Europe is pleased to launch its new position paper 'A Water Smart Society for a successful post COVID-19 recovery plan'. The COVID-19 has been a wake-up call that stresses how the European Union and its Member States are not well prepared for cross-boundary and cross-sectoral crises. Water knows no borders and it is an asset for Europe. We can use water as the enabler to reboot and accelerate the recovery of our society thanks to its interactions with all the other sectors.

How can a Water Smart Society contribute to a strong post COVID-19 Europe?
 
➡️A paradigm shift is needed from crisis management to risk management and prevention. Most crises are predictable and can be addressed in advance: Water has been identified as one of the most severe structural risks for our society for the last 9 years. To prevent future expensive crises Europe must be ambitious and adopt a comprehensive approach towards a Water-Smart society.
 
➡️Water is the key enabler to accelerate post-crisis recovery towards a resilient and united Europe. Building towards a Water Smart Society opens the door for new opportunities and green growth. Water-related employment is stable in the long term and investments in water have considerable economic benefits. Water can be a fundamental driver of the green and circular growth that must drive the post-crisis recovery.
