Dear Praying Friend,

Life always moves fast. But there are times when the equilibrium breaks suddenly and change washes in like a flash flood. That describes everyone’s experience recently. For the last six weeks we have been under lockdown, meaning only one person can leave the home and only with a quarantine pass.
Public transport is closed so we can go no further than we can physically walk. And 98% of businesses are closed leaving only really essential places like banks and grocery stores. The economy is essentially frozen for now.
The line to get into our grocery store

That does not mean that ministry is frozen. We had planned on a brief furlough this summer which we are now cancelling. But in a delightful surprise, I have enjoyed sharing a live update in 11 of our churches, a video update with seven more churches, and others planned for the upcoming weeks. We’ve had a full schedule with meetings every week! Ironically, I am as proximate to any of our supporting churches now as anyone else—we’re all just looking at our screens! So in lieu of a full visit this summer, it has turned into an online furlough!

I’ve also prepared several conferences that could be offered completely online in a one-day format or meeting weekly over several weeks. Please let me know if one of these would be a help to your church.

We are also grateful for ways to minister here in the Philippines. Our church continues to flourish with regular meetings. I have had good quality evangelistic conversations with neighbors when I’m able to speak to people. We were able to write a tract for distributing during this time. It’s available in both English and Tagalog, so please feel free to print it and use it yourself!

Regarding prayer requests, our biggest concern is for our community. Many families in this economy live week to week or day to day. Now they have been without work for six weeks and the quarantine will extend at least another two weeks . Pray for infection numbers to decrease in the next few weeks, for peace and stability to continue in our country, and for safety for all front-liners.

Thank you so much for your prayers!

Joel and Sarah,
Jeremy, Zachary,
Caroline and Joy Arnold
