MSW scholarships
The Carl and Susan Baumann Expendable Fund and the Anna McCullough Memorial Expendable Fund will assist macro and micro students.
Assistant professor Rachel Woodson Goode was selected to participate in the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) training and mentorship program for researchers, also known as PRIDE (Program to Increase Diversity Among Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research). Goode will attend Research in Implementation Science for Equity, one of nine NHLBI summer insititutes, at the University of California-San Francisco later this year.
Professor Sheryl Zimmerman, who is known for her scholarly work with aging populations in assisted living, was appointed to the COVID-19 task force for the Gerontological Society of America.
Assistant professor Rainier Masa was elected to the UNC Faculty Grievance Committee for assistant professors/librarians.
Professor Gary Cuddeback was elected to the UNC Faculty Hearings Committee.

Associate professor Amy Blank Wilson was selected by Chatham Magazine for its 2020 Women of Achievement. Wilson also talked about her home life and research work in a Facebook Live conversation with the magazine earlier this month.
Research associate Todd Jensen and research professor Kirsten Kainz were mentioned by the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute for their work and support for a literature review on engaging families for The Duke Endowment's Get Ready Guilford Initiative (GRGI), a multi-year program to improve outcomes for young children in Guilford County, North Carolina.
Recent alumni update
Ruby Butler DeMesme, MSW '79, died on April 20, 2020, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She served on the School of Social Work's Board of Advisors and was a 1997 recipient of our Distinguished Alumni Award. Last year, she was featured in UNC's "225 Years of Tar Heels" series.
Adriane Casalotti, MSW/MPH '09, is chief of government and public affairs for the National Association of Counties and in this role, she has spoken recently about counties' response to the novel coronavirus in numerous media interviews, including with the New York Times, LA Times, Wall Street Journal, C-SPAN's Washington Journal and NPR Sacramento.
Erin Mullins Barger, MSW '09 was selected to serve as project manager for the Public Private Partnership, Envision Athens, the community and economic development plan for Athens-Clarke County, Georgia. Barger convenes partners from multiple industries and disciplines, including a focus on citizen participation and input, to move the community forward with the stated values of unity, equity, prosperity, and compassion.
Donald McDonald, MSW '16, is a candidate for Region V of the NASW National Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification.
Lacy Rardin, MSW '19, was recently featured in a staff spotlight for the Department of Neurology at Duke University's School of Medicine. Rardin is a licensed clinical social worker associate for the movement and memory disorder teams at the Morreene Road Clinic.
