A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL MAYER

(From Wednesday's call to CMS families):

Hello families!

I hope this robocall finds you and your family doing well. I know that there are many uncertainties at this time - and while we now know that shelter in place is going to be continued through June 1st, we do not know anything more about what next year will look like. Here are a few key announcements for this week:

PE lockers: Next week, students and their families will be able to come by to pick up the items in their locker. They have already been emptied and will be in bags (within the lockers or labeled by their number). The schedule is as follows, the letters are by last name.

  • Tuesday May 5th, 8th grade will be 10:30-1:30 - by alphabet
  • Wednesday May 6th, 7th grade will be 1:00-3:30 and 6th grade will be from 4:00-6:30

Link of plan here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/12yzGVwHDXZwmGJVrhvTgKy2UZ9Pdu578acmr6oT59gg/edit?ts=5eaa4ece. You will need to have a mask to enter onto the property. We will follow the state guidelines and keep 6 foot social distancing in place.

Yearbook money collection: As we get towards the end of the year, we are getting ready for yearbook distribution. The cost of a yearbook is $20, however, we are aware that now more than ever, some families may not have that amount to spare. Our goal for this year, to end positively, is to ensure that everyone who wants a yearbook can get one. More information will be sent via grade level emails on how to purchase a yearbook by Monday.

Grades: Remember the 6th and final marking period began on Monday of this week. The grades are Credit/No credit. Please ensure your student logs into google classroom daily for each class to ensure that they are eligible to receive credit for marking period 6!

Report cards:  Will be available by May 7th, by logging into Aeries (student.ousd.org). If you would like a paper copy or a PDF emailed to you, please contact your grade level dean!

Coffee with Mayer: Come join Mr. Mayer and other staff on Friday for a virtual coffee chat at 10:15-10:45. Nothing formal, just an opportunity to check in with the Mr. Mayer and the staff! Please RSVP to Jonathan.mayer@ousd.org by 5:00 pm Thursday April 30th, if you are interested in joining me and I will send you a zoom link.

In Partnership.
Mr. Mayer

NEED A MASK?

One of our wonderful Claremont parents Ginger Fields is making adult and kids size masks and selling them to raise money for the Oakland Public Education Fund. Masks are available for $15-20 each and they make wonderful Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts. ALL PROCEEDS GO TO THE FUND. If you are interested, learn more here.

PLEASE HELP THE EMERSON SCHOOL LIBRARY

Emerson school is losing their librarian due to budget shortages and cancelled fundraisers. The library is a jewel and it's such a shame that such a well organized and well stocked library wouldn't have someone to keep it vibrant and accessible to the kids.

Regardless of whether your kids attend Emerson, the school could all use our support! Many of us use the playground for our weekend fun (especially now as a place to get outside!) so please consider a donation to help the kids in our neighborhood school.

FREE TUTORING THROUGH THE OAKLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY

There is an individualized tutoring resource which is FREE through the Oakland Public Library for students in Oakland (grades K-12). Learn more here.

LOCAL BUSINESS DONATED 10K MASKS

One of Claremont's loyal school sponsors made the news this week by donating 10,000 masks to the Oakland Kaiser Medical Campus! Thank you to Nathan & Co for being such a great neighbor to the community. See the KRON Channel 4 news report here.

FALCONS IN THE TOWER

Need a distraction? The Falcon Webcam of the falcon baby triplets at the UC Berkeley Campanile may do the trick. There is also an entertaining Hatch Day Q&A session on Youtube. Enjoy!
